Well, I finally decided to buy a '02 Baja and I'm loving it! But dang it's loud! I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Ron Woods pipe? Is it much louder than stock? I don't see how some guys get away with the DB levels. Does anyone know the price of the stage 1 kit? I know, I'm lazy and don't wanna call...

Congrats and welcome to the family. The Ds and especially the baja is one sweet ride. I love mine.

Any aftermarket exhaust is going to be very loud compared to stock. So, if you think it is loud stock, I would not change the exhaust. But if you want more power, then the pipe will get you started in the right direction.

The stage 1 ron wood is $1419. I have the big gun exhaust and I like it. It is loud.

If you do a pipe, I would reccomend jetting, I prefer the dynojet kit, but You can acheive the same results with some jets. Also, once you change these things, I would then plan to do the cdi. With jetting and exhaust you will start bouncing off the rev limiter.

Also, the carb mount filter really lets the engine breath.

Let the mods begin

Thanks, Bat. I've gotten some ideas on the previous posts. I need to learn how to ride before I start going nuts with the mods (I'm used to having a full roll cage around me)

Is the RW pipe another manufacturer with his name or is it his own design?

Mustang, I think the woods pipe is his own design, but I may be wrong. To be honest I just dont know.

I understand with the mods and starting slow. A few mods will really open this thing up.

Alright!,MustangMike welcome to the DS gang! You made a great choice! Take your time and get to know your new beast. If you haven't already, you may want to read through some of the posts on setting up your suspension. Enjoy!

Mike, congratulations! I still remember the day I bought my DS, it felt good, too good. I'm not sure if my wedding next year will feel that good. Just kidding.

I was thinking along the same lines as buttfungus, if you want to buy something for your DS, but aren't sure about power ups yet, do some aftermarket shocks. Works triple rates w/rezzies. They are $529. Talk to Fourlix about his spring recomendations, he has that down to an exact science.

Thanks for the kudos, guys!

I was reading the manual last night and saw the pages about setting up the suspension. I don't know if you've seen my other posts, but I'm a big guy (6'3" 330). So it would be benificial to add preload to the rear, I assume? I like the way it comes out of the whole, (with squat). Would adding preload help/hinder my launch? I'm trying to apply my knowledge of drag racing cars to the bike...but I'm used to having a few more suspension parts to work with.

By the way, thanks for the advice on the pipes too.

Do a search on " New DS shock setup " and read about setting up the sag for front and rear. It would be good to setup the preload with you on your quad. I think there is some intructions in the little manual that you got with your new machine.

Mustang, I am about the exact same size as you. I set my rear susp up like the manual sugested. I think it actually helped the whole ride.

I have mine set at about 4"-4 1/4" sag. I think setting this helps the chain roller live longer also.

I still need to dial in my rebound it rebounds a little quick and on the whoops almost kicks me off the ride.

I will probably eventually get some new front shocks, I rode sand45's Ds and he has the works shocks and I could tell a difference.

Good luck on the setup.
