i was just working on putting the headlights on my banshee, and the guy i bought it from said i needed this little thing for the lights to work. its a square about 2 inches and a half inch wide. it looks aluminum and has a blue wire coming out. what is this? and am i suppost to hook it up to the black wire coming out of the magneto? thanks for your help if you can.

hmm...I just went through the same thing. The yellow wire coming from the magneto is your headlight power source...If you follow the wire up the harness it runs to the headlight switch and then to the headlights. The little box you are talking about is for the TORS system (Throttle override system). That should have nothing to do with it...Check for voltage coming from the yellow wire while the bike is running. If you dont have any you will need to replace the magneto.

Only one wire? Then it's most likely the voltage regular. It should screw to the stock location and the wire will connect to the lighting coil feed.
Look in your owners manual for wiring diagrams.
(not like they will be correct)

yes, the little aluminum colored box with one with wire coming out of it is the voltage regulator.
Yes, you will need it to hook up your lights.
I don't have the schematics for the banshee, but you should be able to look it up in the manual and wire it the same.
