I was just thumbin through the new atv sport or some magazine that started with atv. While I was in the book store.... And they did a shootout with the Baja, Raptor, 400ex, Banshee, and the Cannondale Cannible. And guess what the said had the fastest top speed? The "EDIT" GOSH DARN "EDIT" Banshee.. They said that a stock banshee went over 77 mph? How? Then the Raptor and the Baja both ran 76 mph.I was told that a Raptor runs the same top speed as the regular DS. And the Bajas rev limiter is 200 rpm higher and the baja has slightly taller tires. And the Cannondale ran like 74 or something like that. Now I thought the Cannondale was the fastest. Then in the drag race through an 1/8 of a mile. The cannon was the fastest. Running like an 8.84, 2nd was the baja that ran like an 8.89, then the banshee with a 9.12 or so. and the raptor went a 9.28. Since when does a stock banshee out accellerate a Raptor? The fastest I have ever heard of a stock banshee running is 72. Did they test some kind of a factory freak or something? They did the top speed runs with a gps straped to the handle bars. I am not eaxctly sure on all the numbers but they are how I remeber what i read. Some one who has the article chime in with some input.. I dont understand this whole banshee on steroids thing?

Obviously I have a Raptor. Before any mods I would always beat a stock Banshee in drags. The Raptor would pull away a couple feet in each gear. Different riders, same result. Even when I was on the Banshee. None of these bikes are so far apart in power that with certain riders and conditions anything can happen. jmo

I was wondering the same thing. How does a stock banshee beat a raptor?I didn't think a stock banshee went much faster than 70 mph.As for baja being faster then a reguler ds I wouldn't think it would be a whole lot faster because I ran mine on a radar gun and the best it ran was 76.9mph the best my buddys ran with a rwr cdi box,rwr pipe,no air box lid ,k&n filter was 78.7.As for that shootout I still can't believe some of the numbers.how can the bansee be fastest?badbombardier650 how does your bike work with the modified end cap is it worth it?thinking about getting a set of those ohtsu radials also do they much better than the stock tires? Is your 87 stang stock?

I know that you didn't ask me about the modded end cap, so I hope that you don't mind if I interject. My buddy and I installed my modified end cap last week. I wanted to see how much difference it made performance wise before we changed out the main jet & stock filter. I could definitely tell a difference. After installing the K&N filter and trying a 175 & 180 Mikuni main jet I can tell you that it makes for dramatic gains. We're still playing with the jets, because at the time that I ordered them they did not have the full range of jet sizes that I needed in stock.

As of now, the quad runs like hell through bottom, mid and 3/4 of top. I'm not sure if it's because it's hitting the rev limiter or running a little rich that's causing it to miss (surge) on the top end. I will have the other jets that I'm waiting for by tomorrow and will know for sure which is the case after we play with them. In any case, a rev
(un)limiter and taller tires will be my next purchases (with the exception of the can of Copenhagen that I'm about to go to the store for).

In conclusion, (after this War & Peace novel of a post) the modified end cap was far better than I'd even hoped it would be and for the dirt cheap price cannot be beat. I was about to sink a lot of money into an aftermarket exhaust system before purchasing the endcap, but now would be willing to bet lunch that I wouldn't have gained any more HP in doing so.

I know guies, My friend has a stock 2002 Raptor and beats the crap out of stock banshees. He even beats some piped banshees. well the only thing i can figure is that the guy riding the banshee must have weighed 75 lbs and the guy on the Raptor weighed about 450 or so. During the drag race testing.

dsguru,
Was your top speed of 76 mph with your DS bouncing off the rev limiter? Because a Bajas limiter is 200 rpm higher than a regular DS.

Yes the modified end cap is worth it. With just the cap on a stock bike you will see a very noticable bottom and mid range power increase with a small top end increse. After you jet the carb with the end cap is when you will see more gains in the higher rpms.(biggerisbetter) can make you one for 30 bucks. definatly worth 30 bucks.

Yes the Ohtsu radials are the single best performance mod you can make on a Ds. I personally think that Bombardier should make them a stock tire for the rgular Ds as well as the baja. The traction difference between the dominators and the Ohtsus are like night and day. But if you buy them buy all four. I jsut have the back right now and they hook up so good they push my front end every where. You need to have ohtsu s on the front as well to control it.. They are a very good tire. Im just savin up for the fronts now..

No the 87 Mustang is not stock... It has. Ported, Milled, Competition 3 angle valve job stock Heads, Stock ported upper and lower intake, exturde honed throtle body, cold air induction, equal length shorty heads, off-road h-pipe, 3 chamber flowmaster cat-back exhaust, 6a msd igntion, msd coil, under drive pullies, timing at 17 degrees advance, 3 core radiator, electric fan, windage tray, high volume oil pump, 65 mm EGR plate, 1.7 Ratio Cobra roller rockers, removed air condtioning eqipment, removed smog equipment, removed all other unessesary stuff, rebuilt heavy duty t-5 tranny, centerforce clutch, steeda tri-ax shifter,3.27 gears, ford trac-loc rear end from a 93 lx auto car. It moves pretty good. But it is still a convertable so it is kinda heavy.

The 82 Mustang is waiting on a carberated 351 windsor and a top loader 4 speed. Muhahahaaha. Its gonna be my little sleeper.

badbom, did you rebuild your t-5 yourself? i have an 89 gt and i just built my motor not long ago; my tranny lasted only a few drives after this, i have been looking into the 3.35 supermoly upgrade kit through d@d motorsports, i am going to be rebuilding it over spring break(in college right now) and i have been trying to find someone who has used the upgrade kit for the t-5.

No i didnt rebuild it myself but after blowing it up the first time i wanted my tranny to be stronger. So I had the heavy duty gear set Put into my stock t-5 gear box.Still with the 3.35 first gear. I think the t-5z trannys have a 2.95 first gear dont they?Maby i am wrong. I hadit rebuilt a while ago. couple years.. It cost me about 700 or so to have it rebuilt with the heavy duty gear set.

Guys,
I had an '82 5.0 GT. I put the Tremec tranny in mine. It had the 3.27 1st gear ratio. (3.73 8.8 Motorsport rearend)
The Tremec is a great tranny. The faster you shift it the smoother it is. Not only is much stronger than any Mustang tranny, it's pattern is like a 4 speed. You know how on a T-5 of any type you must make a up,over,up move to go from 2nd to 3rd. On the Tremec you just go over & up at an angle. Needless to say holding the gas to the floor & turning the tires over in 3rd gear (even with Southside lift bars & 50 series tires) was no problem. If you are going to spend the money get the Tremec.

T56 ALL THE WAY... Gotta love having 2 overdrives. Trans is meant to take up to 600rwhp. Comes in the Vipers and all 6 speed F-Bodys.

T-56 are expensive to buy. And they are expensive to bolt into a mustang.

Ok back to the subject. I went out and bought the magazine today. It is March ATV Action mag. Here are the actual numbers.

Top speed

Banshee - 77.7 mph
Raptor - 76.9 mph
Baja - 76.1 mph
Cannible- 75.1 mph
400EX - 66.8 mph

Drag Race in the 1/8 mile

Cannible- 8.89 seconds
Baja - 8.98 seconds
Banshee - 9.19 seconds
Raptor - 9.28 seconds
400EX - 9.66 seconds

Another thing i have found here while i am reading is that it says that the Cannible has the strongest engine. How? Now if you took all the engines off all the bikes and put them on an engine dyno i can tell you right now that the Cannible 440 will not make the most Horse Power and Torque. The Baja ds650 and the Raptor 660 will make more power than the Cannible. And they based the Cannible having the strongest engine on the fact that it had the fastest 1/8 mile time. Is that retarded or what. The Cannible is the lightest machine in the shootout. It only weighs 385 pounds acording to Atv Action and it says that the Baja weighs 505 pounds. That is a 120 pound difference. And the two ran close to the same 1/8 mile time.. The cannible even had the 4th fastest top speed. And they still say it has the most powerful engine.
