Vapor Lock, this subject is driving me crazy @#%^&

I would like to know how many people have expierenced the Vapor lock problem, and CV joint problems. I am concerned due to the fact that I recently purchased a 2002 Grizz not knowing about these problems. I have read all the post concerning Grizzly problems and am not impressed so far. I am however impressed with the machine. I have 340 miles on it and have only ridden it in the winter. I live in Northern Maine and the hottest it has gotten here for the past three weeks has been 30 degrees. I noticed that the grizzly gets hot even in these cold conditions. When the weather warms up this thing is going to get really hot! What should I do? Should I attempt to have Yamaha fix this by complaining that the problem may occur? (But has not yet occured) Or should I wait until the problem occurs then contact Yamaha? Yamaha ATV's have always been reliable and durable. Whats happening with the Grizzly? HAs anybody else had success with obtaining a heat shield for the gas tank? For some reason I don't feel comfortable about boiling gas. This whold situation reminds me of FORD and the firestone tire recall!!! Yamaha should get called by all owners in rebuttle of this subject! Please answer some of my questions if you can! I need some comfort. I just spanked out $7300 for a new ATV that may blow up in my face or blow my child to the moon!!!

As far as i know the vapor lock only happens when you go reallly slow for a couple of hours. I know it won't happen to me becasue i don't plan on going slow for that long.

No to CV Problem but the gas boiling I have had alot if i ride at about 15- 25 MPH with some stop and go for about 30- 40 minutes it boils like crazy and the when you get on the gas hard it will hesitate and not want to go but if you go fast for a while then the higher fuel flow cools the carb and it will act normal until you slow down again. and dont waste your time with yamaha because they are just gonna say your the first person to complain about this weve never heard of this problem i went to 3 dealers called customer service and the PR department wrote letters to all of the above and the best the could come up with is well we let it idle in the parking lot for two hours and it didnt do it. It must be the gases fault yea thats the ticket its the winter gas well i live in FLA and it did it last summer. Other than this and the crappy tires the bike is awesome it will dust a 700's a$$ no matter what anybody says I ride with one every trip... PS next time Ill Buy a Honda I learned my lesson with yamaha

No Kidding, I think that I would rather have a Polaris now that I know about these problems. Seems to me like a whole bunch of us should call Yamaha on the same day. If nothing happens, we should get together and file a class action law suit. This is bogus!!! Yamaha Corp. is crazy for thinking that they can sell this s**t to their consumers without some sort of retribution. I think they should take all these grizzly's back and shove them where the sun don't shine, or fix the darn problems! All interested 02 grizzly owners let me know if your interested in doing something about this. no manufacturer in the world gets away with this lack of R&D. E-mail me at alavoie@nci1.net WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING WHAT WILL OUR GRIZZLY'S BE WORTH PROBABLY NOTHING. Even if want to get rid of them we won't be able to.

This kind of remids me of the parking brakes on Honda 300EX's. Every one that I have come across has a parking brake that doesn't work. Most owners just take it off and buy a block off kit. I guess what I'm trying to say is sometimes you just have to do stuff yourself.

I have had it do this, but only once. Lots of low speed riding and it just all of a sudden would fall on its face trying to climb a hill. Gas was still rolling about 3-5 mins after the quad had been turned off too. This pissed me off big time. Since then, I've backed the bottom of the gas tank in reflective heat tape, and put that highlifter heat wrap on the header pipes all the way up 6" past the carb. Who knows if this will help, but anything is better than having the SOB act up like that again. This quad costs $7 grand. It should be needing all that stuff.

with all this siad, any you guys wishing you bought a prarie 650 or sp700? Just wondering beacuse i'm in the market for a new big bore, and thought i was decided on the grizz. But after people say they have been gas, roll over, and floor board problems , i am starting to re consider.

Still very content with the Grizzly! I would not get any other 4x4. At the time that I found these problems on the post I felt upset but I went for a ride on my Grizz and got over it real quickly. The lake in my front yard is approx. 10 miles long and frozen with 36 inches of ice. It's like living in the salt flats of Nevada. FUN STUFF! About your question. All ATV's have their problems, Yamaha just did not hide theirs well. If I were you I would still consider the Grizzly.

No, i'm not brand loyal to yamaha either. I had the vapor lock thing one time, and hopefully I've got that countered. Nothing else has ever gone wrong. I knew what I wanted when I got it. The polaris is too heavy for me and I'm still scared of their reliability. The Kawasaki is great but doesn't have IRS and that is a must for me.
I would get the Rincon if they would have added a locker and full disc brakes though. It wouldn't have mattered if it was slower than the Grizzly either. I hate all belt drives, and I'm still waiting on a big IRS manual. So far, that hasn't happened.
