any body running sand devils or dune hoppers, how do you like them and how do they compare to haulers?

 

I have a set of Sand Devils for my 400ex. I like them a lot. They do a great job. However, I can't compare them to Haulers because I have never used them before. The only thing that I have to compare to is my stock 400ex tires. Which to begin with, when my 400ex tires where brand new, they did a decent job in the sand. But not as good as any paddle tire would do. At any rate, I am still pleased with their performance for an economical paddle tire. Especially for me because I don't live near the dunes. I only ride in the dunes about 3 times a year. I got a pretty good deal on them though. I only paid $200 (brand new) for both rear tires mounted on Douglas .160 Red Label aluminum rims.

As you probably already know, the GBC Sand Devils are straight paddles. They are not the V-cut (I mean angled) paddles. They do best in drag racing, and climbing up big hills. As for roosting, and doing donuts and stuff like that, they are a little bit harder to do. Reason being is because they are made to scoop sand out as they are going in a foward direction. So as you turn, its like they try to fight you because they are still scooping the sand out as you are turning. I think the angled paddles make it easier to make turns and roost sand a lot easier.

I understand after reading your profile of your quad, you have a 1999 Banshee. Supposively from what I have read, the GBC Sand Devils are a great economical paddle tire and provide excellant hook-up for 2-strokes. I know that my 400ex is a 4-stroke and your Banshee is obviously a 2-stroke, but I think that no matter what kind of quad it is I think that the Sand Devils do an excellant job.

fourtracker, can you tell me about how tall the blades on your sanddevils are?

 

Vision - With the mods that you have, get the Haulers... If you are not going to be riding dunes too much, look for a used set on Ebay...

 

I would have to say about 1 to 1 1/2 inches the blades are. They are not straight up and down, they are more like rounded out if you know what I mean.

Vinson, I have a set for my blaster, and last time I went to the dunes I borrowed a banshee and put yhem on and they worked fine. But like fourtracker said they're better at going straight than turning because they are streight paddle instead of the V-paddle. They don't have as much bite as the haulers(shorter paddle) but they do hook up good. I got mine mounted on PRM aluminum wheels for $120.

 

I have a pair of Sand Sharks and a pair of Sand Devils. I've tried both sets on each of my two bikes, a modded Raptor and a modded 400EX. The difference in forward traction between the two is not noticable. However, the Sand Sharks turn 10 times easier than the Sand Devils. I have also heard from someone on this forum(can't remember who) that he did a heads up match between his Sand Sharks and his Sand Skate II's. As I recall he said the performance was exactly the same and the Sand Sharks actually looked almost identical to the Skates. I think the Sand Sharks are the best paddle for the money. I do think that I'll be trying a set of Gecko's soon though.
