02 Magnum 500...How do you like them?
#1
Was looking at possibly buying a new 02 Magnum 500. I don't need IRS and with the straight axle it will be a little sportier but still rude fairly well. I like the looks and a friend had a 01 that ran great. Anyone riding them?

My bud rides a 99. He likes it plenty, but silently wishes he woulda got the sportsman.
The only problem I know of is a weird sound that comes from the rear end when he's doing 20-30 mph. The polaris dealer can't/won't fix it. They say they can't hear it, but everyone he rides with sure can!!

I really like the looks and size of the Magnum too, but as I'm sure you know you'll really notice the weight going from a Wolverine to a Magnum. Still, it would be a large, comfortable ride, and I would think about it myself except that I don't think the front suspension could handle my pace through the trails.
But if you like the SP that you used to have, you'll like th eMagnum I'm sure.

I think the Magnum could be a good one for me. My back has been hurting some. I need a ride that is a little less harsh compared to my Wolverine. It is a great machine and I can't say anthing bad about it but I guess now that I have been riding alot over the last year I can see what I really need in a machine now.

By looking at the Magnum Wyd you are definately on the right track. Smoother than a Rubicon or a 650 Kawasaki, but not quite up with the IRS boys. You will have a lot of durability with the Shaft-Ride system, comfort and the ability to corner better than a Sportsman or a Kodiak.

The front suspension will fool you. It is very good, same as the Sportsman 500 HO or the Explorer 400.
Magnum 500 quads are probably the most misunderstood and underappreciated 500s on the market today. Their owner satisfaction levels are very well kept secret!

I'm leaning towards getting one. I just hope if I do get one that Polaris still makes them in 03 as I hate to have a machine that is not in production anymore. I know their are plenty of parts but I just like stuff that is in production.

Don't worry too much about the front suspension. If it is bottoming out, stiffer or more progressive springs are widely available, and at a reasonable price (compared to what other makers get for a spring). They even make little spacers you can put in the springs for like $5 each to prevent bottoming. They aren't as good as a stiffer spring, but ARE a cheap way to see if that is what you want. They were originally intended for people who mounted a snowplow in front, to help carry the weight.
