I have a 99 TB and I was wondering what the compression reading should be? The last time I checked it I had just about 100 psi. Is that good or do I need to rebuild it? One more ? can just put rings in it or do you have to put a new piston in it also? Bye the way it is still stock.

I do not know what the compression ratio is but I do know that I have changed rings serveral times without replacing the piston or without reboaring the cylinder walls. A lot of times the rings wear and as long as you rough up the side walls of the cylinder walls with some very fine emery cloth or hone it out with a rotory honning tool like on your drill. Then put her back together and run easy for an hour or two to let the rings seat and your ready to go.

good luck

The book says the service limit is 115 psi. So if yours
is at 100 psi I would say its close to needing some work.
My service manual does not say what the compression should
read. Only that its (std.-+ 15%) Whats the standard?

I think you can put any kind of rings on but I personally
would match mine.
The head bolts torque is 18-20 ft. lbs.
Cylinder base bolts are 25-29 ft. lbs.
