1/4 mile-DS650 VS MX 6
#1
I've got a guy getting pretty pissed because I claim the DS650 would beat his car in a race. He's willing to drive 3 hours and put $500 on a race in the 1/4 mile! His car is an 88 MX 6 with about 100k miles. My DS is stock except for 22/23" tires and 15 tooth sprocket. Should I take the race? Would I be better with the 15 or 16 tooth sprocket? Thanks.

I would say if he's willing to drive and put up the money, and you're not sure if you can beat him, then you should not race him! Sounds like he's pretty sure of himself and you aren't, he's probably got a sleeper of a racecar to be willing to drive all that way and put up $500.
Just my .02 cents.

OK.. An 88 mazda MX-6 can have 0ne of two engines. A non turbo 4 cyl rated at 110 hp and 130ft lbs. And A turbo 4 cyl rated at 145 hp and 190 ft lbs. Now the report I read said that the turbo was good for running 0-60 in under 8 sec. If you race him in the 1/8 mile he will need some serious modifications to beat even a stock DS.With either engine. My 87 Mustang is pushing about 300 fly wheel hp and it runs the 1/8 mile in an 8.6. The stock DS baja runs the 1/8 mile in an 8.9. That isint far from my Mustang. My stang runs mid low 13s in the 1/4. The turbo version of that MX-6 is probley in the mid high 16s. Maby a low 16. So the Mx-6 would be running around a mid 10 in the 1/8 mile. So if its a stock turbo mx-6 you would kill it in the 1/8 mile. If you put on your 16 tooth front sproket and ran him in the 1/4 mile. I think you would still beat him. If it is a stock mx-6. If he runs a low 16s he could pull around 83-84 mph at the most. But if he runs a high 16 he could pull a trap speed as low as 78 or so. A stock DS will run about 74 mph at the rev limiter in 5th gear. But I have heard that a set of 22in tires with the stock gearing has gone as fast as 82 mph. So with the 16 tooth sproket. I think you will take the mx-6 in the 1/4 mile. As long as it only has mild mods or stock. You will be so far a head of him by the time you top out he wont be able to catch up. Heck you might even pull a higher trap speed in the 1/4 mile than him. Thier are easy ways to tell if you shouldn't race the car. If it has slicks, if it has Nos, if it has an obvious aftermarket turbo, If it has a engine that doesnt look like a factory mx-6 engine. Any thing else you should beat.
