I was planning on getting my son the 325 Magnum 4x4 after hearing how well other folks liked theirs. My only remaining concern was if the 325 would be a little under powered so I got looking at the Sportsman 400 and am wondering if I should go that route. We ride trails and sand and get some work out of them around the house. Is IRS, an extra 100cc and a third headlight worth the $800 difference in price between the two?

The 400 is really a 425 and that is one of the best engines Polaris makes. Not too much power but plenty. My old 425 is a tank so i would say go with the sp400 it does have independent suspension.

I'd get the 400 without a question. The extra 100cc's are going to be worth money in the long haul. My brother-in-law has the 325, I have a 425 expedition. For trails and just running around the 325 is perfect. But if you ever need the extra power the 425 will do it. To me the 325 seem like its undersized for the weight of the machine. I noticed his doesnt pull him through the mud very well and he gets stuck a lot, where I normally would not. Speed wise, its almost as fast as mine top end. But for playing around it seems somewhat weak to me.
