Some questions on my Mohave for all U Team Green aficianados!
#1
Greetings my brothers and sisters of Roostertailcity,Just kidding! Honestly I have a couple of questions On my 2002 MOHave.1st question is WHy is it so hard to start especially when i stall it,Yes I have had the dealer ship adjust the valves when i got 10 hours on my machine.2nd question.Dirtwheels was telling some kid how poor the convoluted airbox design is.Does any 1 make or have an airbox or clamp on filter for this I would imagine having to rejet after the fact that ya ripped a stuffed up pipe or airbox off and outta there. Why dont more aftermarket mfgs make more performance bolt ons for this bike being it has such a hi tech motor? Will this bike roost a 300 ex?I mean they make so much stuff for the banshee and 250 R even chrome parts would be nice and lite weight footpegs and such Etc.Aprreciate the replies from U guys and Gals Thanks!

Mines real hard to start if it gets flooded.I tipped it up on the rear bar once to work on something.I ended up pushing it down my steep driveway to get it started.I weigh 190# and my friend Dave cant weigh over 150#,he had a 300ex with a pipe and in a drag race he would get the holeshot, about a bike length or so.After I hit 3rd gear I would pass him.

get a k and n with an outwearer
i dont know why you are having trouble after you tip it it will b a pain but other wise it only takes me 2 or 3 kicks
after a stall i just kick it and give it a quarter throttle at the same time and that ussualy works on the first try
if you look hard you can ussualy find the things you want
it is kinda hard some times but it only makes it better when it finally all comes together

My Mojave has always been a good starter but the Dynojet kit made it easier to start. The Mo comes from the factory jetted very lean, the kit corrects it.
When starting, you need to give it throttle right at the bottom of the kick. That is what works for me. My quad starts on the first to third kick 95% of the time.
I read that same letter in Dirt Wheels and even posted about it. If you live somewhere dry and arid and never ride though the water than removing the airbox might not be such a bad thing. But if you ride though feder deep creeks and water holes like me then you will want to think twice. Sure you can tell yourself you won't ride through water, but if you are out exploring, you never know what you are going to run into. The other thing is I don't cane for K&N filters simply because they don't work well in wet conditions. They are more suited for automobiles or strictly desert riders than for all around quad use.

Rock I think 1 of the companys make a foam clamp on 1 its like a dual element, like twin air etc. That has to be better then a knotted up airbox,Id like to try to ram air the airbox but ya might have seal leakage problems from the pressure, the engine is already pushing 11:1 compression. The other question is does any 1 have the goki electric start? How much is it and does it help the lightning and retain the kick start on the machine too?

Yep, Goki makes an electric start kit and it is on the spendy side. Me? I'd rather keep the change in my pocket and kick away. If you figure kicks for dollars it will probably take years to recoup the cost.
You might ask Gaff about the Goki helping out the lighting since you would be adding a battery. I remember he posted about adding a battery to a Mo in an effort to increase the dismal lighting a low RPM.
If you have your heart set on it I'd definitely go with a foam clamp on over the K&N. Still you are in New Jersey and when I look at the pictures in my Trail Rider magazine it doesn't look too dry there.
But a guy has to try things out for themselves.

Rock,rIDING IN ALASKA must be fun. There isnt a whole lot of places left to ride in NJ due to all the building and some how we have the same tree huggers and lawyers that Kalifornia Has.Down in south Jersey they are thinking bout building a riding area on 2000 acres of abandoned Great adventure Safari property. Its funny it took them all these years to equate riding areas to revenue and now the enviros are gonna mess it up again. Just because they say it will cause destruction to the environment, and I say building isnt. Ya have to wonder whos doing who here hmmmm...?Yes Nj can be very wet and it can be very dry it varies to the seasons.Well ty for your advice and have a good 1.
