As some may know, I've been trying to get a quad for about 2 years now. After finally convincing my mom to help me buy a quad, I get a three-wheeler. I appreciate it but it's kind of hard to race a trike with quads, and it's probably illegal too. Then I did odd jobs and babysat to pay my mom back for my ATC. I'd say we're about even now, and I asked her if she'd help me get a quad again, and the answer was finally yes after alot of persuasion. Now she says she can't afford to help me right now because of a bunch of BS thats happening. I'm only 15 and have been trying since Sep.(my birthday is that month) to get a job with no luck. I am rereading this and I sound like a whiny little biatch don't I? I rebuilt the top-end on my three wheeler, only to find more problems with it, and I can't even afford to fix that. I read thse forums everyday, look at quad sites everyday, and it all is making me go nuts bot having a machine of my own so I'm giving up quads until I myself can buy one. I guess this is my "good bye" to the helpful forum members, thanks for all the help. If anyones intersted in my ATC, E-Mail me.

i'm sorry to hear that, just wondering, what kind of quad were you wanting to get. If it was a brand new one you could try looking for a used one. has to be one out there for you somewhere.

ltracerx;
No need to give up my good man!
Heck, I didn't even get dirtbike of my own till I was 13. Even then it was an older 125, and the engine was shot! Still, I had lots of fun on it, and rode it like that for another 5 years!

I didn't get my first quad till I was 27 (6 years ago).

Take your time, and save up your money. Do odd jobs whenever you can. If you really want that quad bad enough, you will get it eventually. Remember (I know this sounds like a cliche', but it is true)anything worth having, is worth working for. When you DO finally get one (and you will), you will appreciate it so much more, AND you will take very good care of it because you EARNED it!

I'm not saying you abuse what you've got right now. I'm sure you take good care of it too! It will be different though when you use your own money that you worked hard for, and buy that quad that you've been working toward for so long.

When you get enough cash built up, you can sell the three-wheeler to get the extra amount needed to purchase your quad outright.

I know you were disappointed with only getting a three-wheeler, but be thankful that your mom was able to help you get what you've got. Many parents are not able to even THINK about spending money on a luxury toy like she was already able to do for you.

I know it is probably hard to come here day in and day out seeing all these people with all these new fancy quads, and racers, but don't let it make you depressed that you don't have one. Like I said, if you want it bad enough, you will find a way to get it.

In the mean time, learn as much as you can about maintenence, and how to take care of the particular quad that you want to buy.

Many people blow-up their engines for a lack of knowledge on jetting, or how to even perform a plug check. Learn how to jet properly, and how to do a plug check.

Learn how to properly lubricate all of the moving components, and what type of lubrication to use.

Learn what you need to look for when going to buy your quad.

Know what modifications work best, and how to install them.

Know what tires work best for the type of terrain you will be riding on the most.

Learn everything you can from this site, or any other sites that can give you good technical information. Then when the time comes, you will have more knowledge than any of the people you ride with, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, you will be able to get the most out of the machine that you have decided to buy.

You will be light years ahead of most 1st time buyers, and THAT will save you more money than you can imagine!

P.S.,
I also live in Oregon, so if you need help finding a quad, or have questions about different riding areas, feel free to shoot me an E-mail, or post it here. I will try to help any way that I can.
Jeff.

gee, I was expecting a "shut your blowhole and get a job", glad to see someone can put up with my quad obsession. 2fun, thanks for the great words, but all the stuff you described I can already do/ do do to my machines. As for shoveling ****, I probably couldn't even do that right now, Oregon has so many laws protecting myself from myself, that I'm surprised they let me take a pi$$ without adult supervision. I don't want to leave the site, because I do enjoy readin about quads and after 10 mintues, my friends wanna smack me upside the head 'cause I can't shut up about quads, but thats $40 a month that could be going to a new quad instead of the 'net. I have to pay half the bill myself, since my mom doesn't use it. Lonestarbanshee, how did you know my name? I'll be back, I know theres some crazy philospher that probably said "you can't keep a man from doing what he does best" is some weird way. Oh I almost forgot, it's an 85 ATC250R but the motor is halfway apart, I'm in the process of putting in new crank, rod, and main bearings and I just did the top end Feb. with about 5 minutes on it.

Congratulations on learning the technical stuff already! You are already WAY ahead of the game!

Once you get the motor rebuilt you may be able to find a "rolling 250R" chassis for under 2000.00

Then put the 85 motor into it, and save yourself some money that way.

OR, stop sinking anymore money into the trike you've got now, and save it up toward that TRX250R.
I think the Cannondale will be out of your price range for some time.

P.S.,
The 250R three-wheelers go pretty good!
They work well in the sand too!

Alright, I've had enough of my whining for one night. 2fun, where in Oregon do you live? Lsnake, I have been trying for a 250R or C-Dale for awhile now, ask some of the C-Dale riders, they've put up with all my BS for about 6 months. I think it would be impossible for me to forget about racing/riding for awhile, since there are at least 15 guys who ride, all within a 1 mile radius. I just wasted an hour of everyones time, sorry. icav, show your parents that you are responsible enough to control the 400EX or LT and maybe they'll let you have one.
