Hello all! I don't know how many of you didn't like the Skin advertisement on page 39 of the recent issue of ATV Sport, but I didn't like it. I have viewed the sport as family friendly and the magazines as such also. However, I can't keep this magazine laying around with all that was hanging out in that page. I have a child and wouldn't want my friends to see it either. I don't think that sex has ever sold ATV or accessories, and don't feel it's necessary now.
I sent an email the them about it and this was the response:

Jason, thanks for your comments. We have had a couple of other comments on this ad, and we will continue to monitor its impact. I appreciate your
concern.

Glenn Hansen
Editor, ATV Sport

Not sure where you stand, but I won't have these kind of ads in my house.

Thanks,

Jason

So who is the company creating/sponsoring the offensive add? Were they selling a skin replacement product? Helmet "skins"? Not every body has access to the rag so how about a bit more of an explanation?

The action should not be thrown at the publisher of a rag but rather at the product and company that created it!

We can help them feel it in the pocket book.

Well, the magazine sells It's space on the magazine, so in the end IT is responsible for what it allows in it's magazines.

If you don't like it, don't look at it.

Hmm, I'm happy to see that you read my whole post and understood it. I really didn't say much of anything about me looking at it. Anyway, It's my decision to feel differently about these things, and I believe that should be respected by the publishers. Anyway, it won't be any big deal if they lose one or two customers anyway, I guess.

You see more skin on Jerry Springer than what's in the ATV mags of today. Too bad there isn't as much skin in the mags like the ones from the 80's had. Heck I bet there's more skin in a new Disney movie than what's in the mags today.

Have you looked in a recent issue of MX Action or Racer X? Evidently not. The ads get a lot more raunchy then the Skin ad. I like it, I think it brings an attitude to ATVing that has been missing. That sort of imagery has vaulted the MX scene to national prominence and can only help do the same for quads. Sex is everywhere in our society. Turn on your TV, have you seen E! television lately, what about MTV? Hell, I could sit here all day and name off stations and shows on television that show bikinis, swimsuits, and lots of flesh. Chill out bro, the ladies weren't naked! Oh yeah, just for kicks, go to LBZ's website and visit the trophy girlz section and see what you think of that!

Yeah, and I recon sex isn't the reason that families are falling apart, AIDS is rising each year, and abortion is at an all time high. The dirtbike videos and all that you mentioned doesn't represent every riders ideas. And if I my family to see that stuff, I would turn on Jerry Springer or MTV, however I don't. I think that there should be a certain amount of respect for the families that represent this sport and their subscribers. I've yet to see it on the other two magazines.

Rottwolf,
i have seen the as you are referring to as well. I dont have much of a problem with it, but I do understand your concern.. I Think that you are going to short-change yourself if you decide to abandon ATV Sport. This mag is very informative and really its the best one out there. i would suggest you cut the offending ad out and then you and your family can enjoy it together...
