00 Kodiak 00 Wolverine Shootout
#1
I have narrowed my selection down to the Wolverine and the Kodiak. Has anyone ever lined these 2 machines up and let them go? I realize speed isn't everything but it sure is nice. The Kodiak is definately the heavier of the two but it also has 50 more cc and is liquid cooled. I plan on riding both quads before making a final decision and I'll let you know my decision.
Thanks

So what you are saying is the Wolverine would flat spank a Kodiak hands down. I was just curious if the larger motor and liquid cooling of the Kodiak would make up for the extra 60lbs it weighs. The only problem I have with the Wolverine is the full time 4wd, or am I just being picky.

I think the Kodiak does 50mph while the Wolverine dose 60mph and gets their faster also.I like the Wolverine becaues it looks like it would be nice for hunting and fishing or doing a little work also when it's not tearing through the trails.

I am 6'2" @ 240#'s. I weight train. I like the Kodiak for the comfort and it's fit for my body size. The suspension is plush. I love the Auto Tranny. I had a Kaw Bayou 300 Full time 4X4. It was tank like. I just plodded along on it. It did serve me flawlessly for 6 years. The Kodiak has made me go out and buy a Helmet. It's no Wolverine but it aint no Tank either. I guess if a person is not looking to customize or trick out a machine the Kodiak is the way to go. Except for tires. It is OK like it is. The Wolv is more suited for modifications. I put on OEM size Kenda Bear Claws. They hook up good.
As for top speed. The machine is jetted 2 sizes lean. I went up and got a surprise for any STOCK wolverine on top end. I have raced them before and after and I ain,t no slouch anymore. If you drag race one be sure to be in 4X4. That is how they get the big hole shot on you.
I like the Wolv. I just fit better on the Kodiak.

Man.. Go to your dealer and take them both for a test drive. The best part of buying is SHOPING! Even if it's just around the parking lot it will help you get a feel for what you like. Myself, I just bought a brand new Kodiak FULLY LOADED
Kimpex f/r bumpers, 26" Bear claws, warn winch w/rollers, bigass back seat with kimpex foot pegs/fender guard (for whoever tags along with me). And I like the feel of driving a big Cadilac/Kodiak around.. The wolverine might be quicker and more suspension but my days of seeing how high I can jump my 300 bayou are over anyway
I mean.. that's fun and all and i'm sure my Kodiak would take the punishment my bayou would, but you just have to sacrifice one for another if you want the best. But if you want a little of each I'd for sure buy somthing like a wolverine. And when I say a little of each I'm not saying a Kodiak isn't gonna take the punishment of zipping through singletrack as fast as you can steer, but I'm sure a wolverine is gonna take more air. What I'm really saying is.. If I had a motocross track near my house i'd get somthing sportier.. Ok what I'm really saying is i'm drunk and rambling on...

I got this off another post. Here goes........
I feel i just need to put my 2 cents in so to speak on this struggle between these two machines. I made the choice of buying the y2k Kodiak while i was being laughed at by my friends because they bought wolverines. However they are not laughing anymore, in fact they wont admit it but they kinda wish they would of spent the extra 200 bux for the kodiak. Heres the differences in the two. First off, the wolverine is a very dated bike. Yamaha shold of either put 2w/4wd switch on it or least another 50cc's. If you ride in mud (like i do) you will most likely want some mud tires right? If you think the wolverine has enough power to turn mud tires, they dont. In the thick stuff it will just bogg down and eventually stall out. My kodiak with 26inch vapires will spin them in high gear and in low gear pullin someone out of the mud. Wolverine is definately a faster bike. It has more top end howver i did race my friend from a rolling 10mph and i beat him to about 40mph then he took the lead, cuz the kodiak has the (get up and go) when you hit the throttle. You can play around with the kodiak much more than the wolf, ive tried going sideways on both quads in 4x4 i cant do it..
Of all the bikes out there, you can hardly say the Kodiak is a true utility bike, utility to me would be a slow dog like suzuki quadrunner or a timberwolf, a cheap farm bike so to speak. Besides if you need 4x4 obviously its for the mud right? otherwise get the warrior or a sporty 2wd. 4x4 should be for the mud, and where there is mud you need power to get through it, which the wolf does not have....
To me the Kodiak is the closest thing to a real sport/utility the wolverine is a sport/wannabe utility
