Don't know how far you are willing to travel, but there is an awesome place to ride, in Oliver Springs(Harriman exit# 347, off I 40). Wind Rock Mountain(do a search WindRock ATV Club).

I have been to all the big rideing areas in Tn, and surrounding states and this place is by far the best place I have ridden, 30,000 something acres of anything you could imagine!

I have a 300EX also, the only trails I haven't rode yet are the ones I haven't found.

If you have the time check it out, $10 a day, or $50 per year, you can ride 24/7, get a map, all the trails are marked.

If you want more info, ask, I have been rideing there for 2 years know...

GO TO COAL CREEK!!!!!!!!!

It's the place GTV referred to. We went there at the end of March. Our plan was to ride there four days and go to Indiana for four. Never made Indiana. We rode seven straight days at Coal Creek. It's 72000 acres. Some easy trails, but lots of technical riding. You can take the easy trails to the top where the windmills are. It is an absolutely beautiful place to four wheel. We took a ride one night up on the mountain. We found a place to have a fire, it was awesome.

There is a place to stay in Oak Ridge. It's around ten miles from riding area. Tell them you want the Windrock rate. It's 55.00 per night. A very nice place to stay. Check out windrockatv.com. Ask for Kevin, he is very helpful with any questions.

Everyone I've come across just raves about it. You will not regret it.

If you need any other info, let me know.

Scott

You can also try Royal Blue ORV area just north of Knoxville, I-75 & Hwy 63, exit #143. It's on both sides of the interstate and you'll pass right through the middle of it going south to Knoxville. I liked the riding on the east side of the interstate the best. The west side was fun, but was mostly easy trails and gravel roads. There are some good trails, but nothing that matched the east side. There are probably more miles of trails on the west side and definitely more trails once you consider that it borders Coal Creek, though you must first buy their permit.

CCMC aka Wind Rock was a great place to ride! We went down ther last weekend. We stayed in the Smokey mountains and it was about the closest place we could find. Like was mentioned earlier take the trail up to the wind mills. I think its trail 7 or 2. Anyway when you get to the gat it will probably be closed. When you turn around you will see a hill that goes almost straigt up! I went up that hill with my 400 sport. It was a rush! You will climb about 200ft going from the bottom fo the mountain to the top. It went from 65 to 45 degrees. Have fun!

Rockey,

did you go up that hill that is on your left before you get to the windmills?(the short straight up one)?

It took me a month to get up the nerve!!! On my 300EX, 4th gear, WOT, it's a cool hill...

GTV. Yep thats the one. I wasn't really planning on going up it. I went about halfway and then back down. It was then I decided it wasn't too bad, so I went ahead on up it about 15 mph. When I hit the top I landed right in front of that post and it stopped me. It felt like the bike was going to roll down sideways so i jumped off! It was the most vertical hill Ive ever climbed. The only ones that are worse are the ones on the Huevos movies. Congrats on making up also.

Any of you stupid enough to go down trail 14? During a momentary loss of reason, I decided to give it a try. I managaged to make it over half the way down without killing myself. Just when I was pleased with myself, I ran into the first major obstacle. I ended up sitting down in the creek that runs down the trail, tying a strap on the back of my machine, and lowering it down by hand over a 4 foot dropoff. Twenty feet from there, I ended up having to roll the machine all the way over onto the handlebars and back onto the wheels. My son sat at the bottom laughing at my incredible stupidity. But..it was a challenge, and since I didn't tear me or my machine up, I was pretty happy that I tried it and made it.

Not sure of any immediately around Gatlinburg. Tellico is on the TN/NC line, but probably 1.5 - 2.0 hours South. Coal Creek and Royal Blue are probably about the same to the Northwest. The roads and traffic going to and from Gatlinburg make it tough to get anywhere fast. However, a 2 hour drive is not that bad and any of these three would be great riding.

P.S. - If your wanting some serious, and I mean serious, offroading go to Tellico.
