I was somewhat depressed when I put 27" mudbugs on my 650 and they took away my wheelie factor in high range. But thanks to a simple airbox mod, that I copied off nyroc, now they are back and then some.
What I did was use a piece of 2.25" flexible shop vac hose in place of the old intake riser, which is very restrictive to say the least. It just slid into the old rubber grommet on the airbox I tightened the clamp and was done.
It even seems to idle better and take less time to warm up now.
I was very surprised to find that it was this easy to get so much more power and best of all it cost nothing.
Thanks for the idea nyroc.

Hey PrairieDust, you wouldn't happen to have pictures of this modification would you?

Diamond G Racing will have an oversize, mandrel bent air inlet available in 3 to 4 weeks. Looks great and makes a BIG diffrence in performance.

Mitch Cyr, Sorry but I dont have a digital cam yet. If you look at some of the older posts you will come across pictures of nyroc's mods which I pretty much copied except that I used a different kind of hose. It actually looks like a stock piece because it fits into the stock rubber grommet.
If its cheap enough I will still probably buy Diamond G's replacement inlet.

Prairie Dust:

Where did you run the end of the newly installed intake hose? Is it the same place that the stock one was? Is that side of the intake easy to get to?

Thanks

Parker, I had to take off the plastic surrounding the air filter to get easy access for removal of the stock piece. Then I fished the new hose up through the hole in the rubber water/mud deflector and yes it breathes exactly from where the stock one did.
I can't wait to get it on an open stretch to see if it will go any faster as well as the large gain in bottom end.

I used a radiator hose for my snorkel. I removed the stock one and took it to the parts house with me to match it up with a hose the same size (2 1/4" I believe). Very in-expensive and fits perfect! Found a hose that had a couple bends in it and wahlah just like factory! Just an idea for those looking for an easy mod!
