2002 - 500 HO Scrambler

By the 2002 model year they have remedied most if not all of the issues. Each year Polaris seems to address several issues the earlier model years had. Make sure you buy from a reputable dealer. Most problems with Polaris ATV's are because the dealer didn't check it over and adjust them properly. Polaris counts on the dealers for partial assembly and final adjustments. Some dealers do not know what they are doing and just slap them together and make little or no adjustments.
Things to watch out for would be; Swing arm bolts loosening, chain loosening, valve cover gasket leak, and loosening steering (tie rods and upper bushing). You will get the infamous “motor tick”. This tick is at idle and goes away as the rpm’s rise. It is a normal noise and does not seem to get worse and is not much to worry about. Besides these items and the questionable use of plastic bushings they are pretty solid quads.

Hey there, I noticed you were in Connecticut, If you are anywhere near Canada, I just picked up my 2002 500 4x4 for $ 7,200 CDN do the math at the current exchange rate that would be approximately $ 4700 USD.
