Trx 250r or Raptor????????
#1
I own a 01 raptor with a few mods.
I want to sell it and get a 250r because i'm leasing the raptor and i never have any money to do some serious mods.
If you TRX 250R owners would help me out that would be great!!!
Is the power on a 250r similar to a cr250's power?
Will I miss the power of my raptor?
I like the power of 250 dirtbikes.
What are some of the pro's and con's of 250r's?
I plan to do some freestyle comps and mx races this year, which bike is better, raptor or 250r?
I'v never ridden a 250r so please bear with me.
THANKS!!!

In stock form, the TRX250R will have slightly less power than the dirtbike.
For MX, the 250R is hard to beat, and is one of the top quads for that type of racing.
You will lose the torque that you are used to with the Raptor, however you will gain wheelspeed.
Pros;
Ergonomics
power to weight ratio
Excellent jumping ability
Excellent cornering stability
Cons
They are old, and it is harder to find one not beat up.
Reliability issues depending on how they were kept up (or not kept up).
250R is bettr for MX racing.
I'm sure there will be MANY more comments to follow.

Not to many will disagree with you...2fun. 250R's, properly built, will be wickeder than any Raptor. I drag with built R's all the time and they will rock (4.7's in 300' sand). You will miss the low end grunt of the Raptor. Have the best of both worlds, keep the Raptor, save for the R. Leasing a Raptor.....really? Can you do that in the USA.

2fun i agree with everything you said in your post except for this lil statement "In stock form, the TRX250R will have slightly less power than the dirtbike." Lets just say that a stock TRX250r will get totally hammered by a stock CR250 in a drag race, powerwise they are not even in the same league.The TRX in stock form puts out around 28-30 rwhp at about 325 lbs while the CR puts out around 40 rwhp at about 220 lbs, it is not even close i know i witnessed it many times before.To run with a CR250 you will have to mod the TRX till it produces right around 50 rwhp to compensate the weight advantage the CR has.
In other words Rapzilla if your looking to get CR 250 type of power out of a 250r prepare yourself to spend some money and i am not talking just pipes and reeds here.Other than that 2fun is right about the quad, it is a great one.

Imback;
I did not know what the stock R.W.H.P. of a CR250R was. I only knew that it was more than the TRX250R. I also agree with you RWHP figure for the TRX250R.
And yes, it would take somewhere between 750-1000 dollars to make 50 RWHP on the TRX. I know, cause thats about what my 88' is pushing.
200.00 port job
Shaved and re-configured head ~ 50
Pipe ~ 200 +
Reeds ~ 129
Aftermarket carb ~ 200
Whatever else I'm forgetting.

2Fun i wasnt picking on you, i myself own a modded Shee but some of my friends own 250rs, while i love their ride for what they are meant to be they love mine for the exact same reasons.I was just trying to avoid Rapzilla a big deception if someday he would line up his future to be stock 250r vs a Cr 250 thats all.
