Hi all

If all owners of 2002 Prairie 650's would please do this and reply I would REALLY appreciate it.

Put you P650 in neutral and rock the ATV back and forth and tell me if you can hear a clicking noise coming from the back of the ATV.

When mines in neutral and I do this there is a clicking coming from the rear of the ATV. I just had the shifter linkage adjusted so thats not whats making the noise. The dealership called kawasaki and kaswasaki said that it should not make any noise and that they really can't do anything unless theres is a problem. The bike runs absolutley perfect and there is no problem whatsoever it just makes that noise and the dealership doesnt want to tear it all appart just to find nothing wrong and scratch their heads. They have a P650 on the floor and it doesn't click so I just want to see if any of yours do. It might be normal but kawasaki never noted it...?

Thanks..!!!

My does not click and neither does my friends. I do have to sometimes rock my machine to get the gear selector to move....It's getting better as I get time on the machine.

Lackdog, mine does this. A lot of people's 650 does it. A kawi factory rep investigated it and said it's just normal gear slack. Don't worry about it. Kawi used straigh cut gears in the tranny to save weight and gearbox volume (less oil maybe? Less gearbox heat gain too). They are just as strong, but make a whining sound and you can hear the slop more. I don't mean to discredit Paririeslider, but I would guess if I rode his, I would hear the gear slop.

FYI, the shifter adjusment is neccesary if the trans pops out of gear, or the gear slips (ratchets). This usually happens in low range, slowing down.

If you have the engine off, and the quad on a flat surface, and you push the quad back and forth, you can get it to make the same sound. It has to be real quiet, maybe even in the garage.
