I just bought a used 2002 300EX that was owned by a teenager who dumped it on a wheelie and trashed the handlebars and the plastic covering for them. Now it has better handlebars but no ignition switch for the key. He said it was damaged and got thrown away. Now the ignition is ON all the time and I have to be really careful to not leave it in neutral or the green neutral light will drain the battery. I could disconnect and re-connect the ignition wires every time but that stinks too.

How does everyone deal with the switch when they replace the stock bars? Where do you mount it?

Thanks much?

Thanks Warrior, it does seem to be what I am looking for. Can anyone chime in on how/where they relocate their switch with aftermarket bars like Renthal's etc?

I drilled a hole in the plastics on the right side under the handle bars. Just make it a little bit smaller than the diameter of the ingnition (better to small than to big) and use a file to make it the proper size. I had mine just a little to small so that it would fit more snug. If you look at some of the old 250x's and the very early model 300ex's, they have the switch in this same spot. When you drill the hole, MAKE SURE THE GAS TANK ISN"T IN THE WAY. I know you're not that dumb but I would hate it if someone made the mistake and blamed it all on me.

Hope that helped

YoDaddy that is helpful info, thanks much. Would be nice to see a photo of exactly how it looks when finished but that might be hard to come by.

It looks exactly like your "brides" Kawasaki Bayou 220's reverse ****, only it's a key.

instead of a keyed ignition.. why don't you just hook up the wires to a switch.. you don't really need the key anyway..

Good point d33. I just don't want it to look tacky or be unreliable. Any suggestions of a good switch to use and how to mount it?

i drilled a hole in my headlight cover. i put a hole on the top left side of the cover. works good for me. it is a tight squeeze, but works. it does not look bad.
