well i finally decided to send my head out to trinity racing. im gonna have them do a porting job and a 3 angle valve job. im also gonna have them performe the chamber mod. im almost posative im gonna use their super light piston( any coments on this piston?) and if i can afford it i might have them hard face my rockers and instal the valve spring kit i really wanna use a more radical cam because i think i would benefit more from that then the xr400 cam. according after the porting, valve job, chamber mod and the piston i should be running wround 40 horse power!!! thats no bad for a stock bore ex. some of the 440 kits only put out 45 anways does any one have any comments about my choice??

From what i've heard about Trinity Racing, they have a great product, but the service leaves something to be desired. I know my friend had to get on their *** about a pipe he ordered for his blaster before it shipped out.

I've had 3 Trinity motors. Admittedly, they were two strokes and you have a 4 stroke, but, while the motors ran, they ran well. It's just that Trinity is such a POS company the motors never lasted longer than 6 days.
Trinity sucks and I wouldn't let those nimrods touch a skateboard that I owned.
Their customer service sucks, the attitude of the people there is that they are superior beings and that you're stupid.
Save your money and go elsewhere. Why send all the way from the east coast to the west? There has to be someone closer to you that can do an excellent job.

Get real- Trinity is a excellent company to deal with. They go out of there way to help you. Nice friendly people from top to bottom. If you get Harry on the phone, watch out- He will give you info than requested. He ran my cell phone battery down, the last time i called. lol

They sent me a Trinity banner last week, for a party that we had at my private MX track.

No company is perfect, but they try harder than anyone.

I'll tell you what about Trinity,
I live 10 minutes from them and have been inside their shop many times.
They have done work that I didn't request done and then tried to charge me for it. I had a big arguement with Harry about it and he wouldn't give an inch and was going to keep my quad until I paid for it until I was able to produce my original work order. Then, only because I threatened legal action, we settled.
I know people that have been in there and when they find out that you don't want to spend mega-bucks on a Banshee hill-climber, they turn up their nose at you.
I have a friend that went through 3 Suzuki LT500 motors much in the same way I went through 3 Honda R motors. He has some good people and engineers, but the idiots that do the actual work are a bunch of glue-sniffing ego-tripping morons. How's this for an example. . .
A buddy of mine just bought an 86R from a private party. The guy showed us the receipts from Trinty. It stated that the guy wanted a "big bore 300" from a stock cylinder. That means, remove the cylinder sleeve, bore the jug, install a new sleeve and bore (the new sleeve will be a 295). Well, this engine seized on the second trip out. My brother and I pulled the engine apart. Guess what? Seized crank. Oil seeped from the dry side seal. So, Trinity never replaced that seal which is typical of that shop. Next, when we took the cylinder to a machinist, he said it wasn't a big bore, it was a stock cylinder with a 4th bore! Also, the freaking piston was in backwards!!!! Now my friend had to spend almost $800 to rebuild a suppoesed "fresh" Trinity motor. Typical.
If you go into the shop, they call everything except Shees junk. One guy was even calling my 36mm Mikuni a POS. Screw them!
Trust me, locally, Trinity has a lousy reputation.
Shop around for someplace local. Unless you want to waste money.

trapperb1,

Since you only live 10 minutes from Trinity, I will ask you to go there and point out the glue-sniffing ego-tripping morons that you mentioned in your post.

On your "buddy" with a 86r that he purchased from a private party, did you ever think he could have been taken by the private party? Piston in backwards?? Yeah right. Sounds like the people were selling it because they messed it up.

On your carburetor issue, you said "If you go into the shop, they call everything except Shees junk. One guy was even calling my 36mm Mikuni a POS. Screw them! Again, I call BS. The 36 Mikuni is used by Trinity on various machines and is even run on a stock bore 250r drag bike that runs 4.50 in the 100 yard.

Looking back on some of your old posts, I came across your post from August 24, 2000. You said,

"Try this, buy the quad and have it smoke the motor 2 months after you buy it. Take it to a famous builder (Trinity Racing) and have them charge you $300 for a top-end on a 250R! Take it out and the thing smokes again in 3 days! Take it back to Trinity, ask for a tear-down only, wait 2 weeks, go back and they did another top-end (I didn't ask for this to be done). Argue with them and get the price down to $150, take it out and SMOKE IT AGAIN IN JUST 6 DAYS!!!! Think I didn't want to give up? I did! Miles from camp and it was hot as hell and had to be towed back to camp. Took the motor out, took it to Orange County Honda. They split the case, replaced the shift forks, crank, seals and bearings, rod, piston, honed the cylinder, and put it all back together for $430! That was over FOUR YEARS AGO! It hasn't broke down since! Just spend the time and money to get it right."

Looks to me like you bought a turd with a bad bottom end --- so much for your ability to locate good 250r's. Then you ask Trinity to freshen up the top end. They did and you crapped the motor. Again, probably at no cost or no labor cost, Trinity does the top again at your request -- they probably suggested a full tear down but you cheaped out. Then more problems for you. Finally, the problem that was in place BEFORE Trinity did the work you requested was found to be the cause.

Get serious. Oh, and let me know the names of those "glue-sniffing ego-tripping morons" that you are describing. While you are at it, why don't you tell us your real name so that we can confirm your stories. Seven years ago??? Are you serious?
