Ok, well im looking to get a sport quad. I found this website and have been doing a little searching online. I'm not sure what to get and wanna see what you guys have to say. I was thinking a 400EX but it has no reverse, so i thought 300EX cause it does. Then i saw the Yamaha Warrior. Seemed to be a bit better than the 300ex. But from this forum all i've seen was negative info on the warrior. I'm trying to stay around 5k otherwise i'd probably be looking at a Raptor. Thats why i thought warrior was good at 5k, less than 400ex cost and has reverse, and better than 300ex. I could be wrong i dont know alot about these, just my thoughts.
I'm 6' 185lbs and i'll be doing all around riding i guess you could say. trail riding and open/dirt riding. I'm not looking to be the fastest rider, but i dont wanna be lost behind. Just wanna get out and have fun! Thanks all for the help!!

People will say that for beginners, get a small bore quad(I.E Warrior, 300EX) because you will "get into trouble" with a more powerful quad. I think this is BS. Chances are you'll get bored quick with the smaller quads, so instead of buying a new quad, getting bored and trying to sell it to upgrade to something else, you might as well get the right quad the first time and save yourself time, money, and a few headaches. You can pick up new Raptors for $6000. The LTZ400 has reverse and is looking really good, they're $5699 if you can find one. Plus, I don't think you would fit on the small bore quads too well!

How much do you really want reverse. I mean the 300EX is a great machine and its pretty fast for a begginer but the 400EX would be so much better for your size. STAY AWAY FROM THE WARRIOR, Its got problems ill just leave it at that. Well hope this helped see ya.

he needs reverse for the trail riding. For you I waould prob. stay away from the 400 ex.Get the 300 ex or even the 250 ex they will still hold your weight.the way he is talkin you weigh 300lb.I weigh 160 and 6'2' and im ride a recon.(also a rancher)

Get the 2003 Suzuki Z400. It sized about the same as the 400EX, but it has reverse and supposedly(sp?) handles better. That is the machine I would get if I wanted a sport quad, and if I didn't just buy the Cats.

But go out there and sit on them and see which one you like.

ok...well thanks alot for all the info guys, greatly appreciated! ok the Warrior, what is so bad about it? a friend has one and says its a great all-around quad. Now my best friend got a 400EX last month and i rode that, it is a nice ride, but its $700 more(retail) and has no reverse, yes i know it is quicker though.
also, as for the Raptor. I was trying to stay away from it cause i dont wanna spend that much cash, but anyways....how is it for trail riding? Is it a good all around quad, or just more for speed? All i know is its quick, has reverse, and i think it looks awesome. otherwise i know nothing about it's handling, etc... But someone in my town did break something in the front on it last weekend near the wheel, think he landed bad or something.

I think that Suzuki is just as reliable as the Honda's, and they are less cold blooded(of what I have seen). Also Suzuki is the first one that came out with a 4 wheeled ATV.

That was one of the deciding factors for me to buy the Arctic Cat's because they use the Suzuki power plants.
