I have finally made the decision to get a Raptor. After riding a 2001 I decided to get a 2002.The gear ratios felt really weird on the 2001.They would probably be ok if you got use to them.I am hopeing that the 02 ratios are going to be better, any comments?I am looking forward to riding this monster. I want to thank you guys for all the information you have given me over the past few weeks. It has been invaluable in making my decision.I am sure I will have some more questions as time goes on.Thanks for all the help...J. if i were you i wouldn't buy the raptor 660. i would go with the DS650 b/c they are a all around better quad. my buddy purchased a raptor 660 last june and he likes the quad but there are some litlle things he found wrong with it. he said that they are too narrrow just like "imadunatic" said, second and third gear are spread to far apart, there is not really a powerband, these are some of the problems he did not quite like about the raptor. with my DS i smoke him every time he races me. so if i were you i would buy a DS over the raptor any day.

Congratulations. Take my advice a buy a skidplate before you do any riding near rocks. The rear brake rotor will fold like a soft taco the first time you hit a rock while running that factory plastic skid plate.

I'm with ANUFSED on this. Your first purchase should be a swing arm & belly skid plate. The plastic skids suck!! I put the GYT-R skids on & I like them.

After you get the skids your next purchase should be a Pro Design Adaptor & filter, The stock filter is a bit shakey.

Then after you've taken care of all the protection issues go for MORE POWER!! Trim your snorkle, add a Dynojet kit & a pipe. That will turn your Raptor into a fire breathing monster!!

I've got the Sparks X6 with stainless header & spark arrestor, I love it, It makes good power, looks great & is well made.
You can see my Raptor with my Sparks pipe on My Web Site

OH yea I almost forgot the most important thing. Ride safe & have fun!!

1FastDS,

I guess the guy coming off a Polaris Sport wouldn't really notice that the DS is almost 80lbs heavier than the Raptor. I love the DS' ability to absorb the big hits with the suspension, but the rev limiter really bugs me, and the machine is really heavy.

You need to ride a properly piped Raptor to fully understand how much fun this machine is. We have a DS that hasn't been started in 6 months.

This guy isn't deciding if he wants a Raptor, he already has it coming on Wednesday.

Sport400LSC, Congrats. You will like the 2002 better as the ratios are changed, and the consensus is that it is a good thing. Ride your machine and enjoy. When you get the itch to upgrade it a bit, do the jet/filter/pipe kits, and get ready for a whole new level of power.
