I have a 2000 400ex, I have never had any problems with it ever. While riding this weekend it decided to start giving me some trouble. It is VERY slow starting, it cranks for like 30 seconds before it finally wants to fire. Sometimes it cranks even longer!

I am thinking it may be a fouled plug, or bad gas? somthing along those. Anyone ever have anything like this happen? Let me know.

thanks
James

Throw a new sparkplug in there. That's probably your problem, especially if you've never changed it over the past couple of years. Your battery may be getting low on juice also. These atv batteries only seem to last a few years. But try the plug first. That's a cheap fix.

The battery works like a champ, I mean it has plenty of juice to crank it over for 30+ seconds.

Be carefull cranking you'r scoot for over 5 seconds or you might be replacing you'r starter. You might take a look at you'r (brushes) the electrical contactors on you'r stator if they are worn you'll be drawing more amps to turn it over, hence more battery drain.

I had the same problem. Replaced plug with splitfire plug. No problems since. Also, do you have the WB rev Kit? If you do this makes starting harder if your battery is not fully charged.
