I am looking to spend around $1800 on a starter. I am 6'2/215 and I am not that experienced, but I know how to ride. I am mostly going to be riding it on mild trails, and some small jumps. What do you all think I should start out with? So far a blaster is looking like the best choice.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

The Blaster would be a good choice, but you could find a nice used 300EX for that price also. The 300EX is a much better all-around quad with features like hydraulic brakes, electric start, and reverse that you wont find on the Blaster.

Considering your size, I would think a warrior would better suit you. You will feel cramped on a blaster. Do you want 4x2 or 4x4 ?
2 stroke or 4 stroke ?...

I am looking for a 2x4, two or four stroke does not really matter to me.

I agree, a blaster would be too small. Try a Warrior or maybe a Polaris Sport 400.

I know that a kawasaki Bayou is the fastest or best handling, but it is a good durable machine. The bayou 220's are a dime a dozen and a good used one is weel within that price you posted. For a few extra $$'s you could get a bullet proof bayou 300 2wd. You'd not only get a larger engine, but dual a arms up front and a dual mode diff in the rear. Both the 220 and 300 have good acceleration but top out a like 40 mph.Outstanding trail riders but not really meant to jump, but I jumped my 300 for years and never had fixed anything.

OK, I came up with some more money (about $2500) and I have been looking around a lot. I am going to get a Warrior. I found a 97 in the paper for $2600. I am going to look at it later today, is there anything special I should look for? (common problems, etc.)

Thanks

The two top peeves I have with the Warrior ( and some other Yamahas) is the totally crappy chain adjuster on the axle, whoever set that up should have been shot long ago.Make sure the former owner knew how to do it right, and not rode it with the axle crooked, which is easy to do if you don't evenly turn the tension bolts. Another thing is to open the air box, grab the stock air filter, put it under you truck tire and do a burn out on it so you won't be tempted to use that bad sealing thing on the quad. Purchase a Pro Flow,or Twin Air filter adapter that uses a clamp on type filter. Other than that, it is a great quad, will run for years and give you lots of good riding time. Let us know how you come out on your purchase !!

Well I went to look at it and was very dissapointed! The frame was cracked, the tie-rods were cracked, tires were shot, and the handle bars were turned when the wheels were straight. Far from perfect condition as it was described. Oh well, my search continues.
