Snorkeling PVT on Magnum 500
#1
Has anybody come up with a good set-up on snorkeling the PVT on the Magnum 500's or Sportmsman 500's?.. I keep working with different materials... from PVC pipe to flex hose. I can't seem to get a set-up that I like and that looks durable...
The air duct hose like for use on a Scrambler won't work because of space limitations...
Any information is GREATLY appreciated..

Hey Mud, one of the first things I did to my 96 SP isdeal with the outlet side of the PVT as this is much lower than the intake, I have run my machine up to the little holes on the side of the tank area and have never slipped a belt.
All I did was to go to my local hose and rigging shop and look through all their 2" id raideator hose,(prebent) I found two that had the bends I was looking for,( I had to use two hoses to get the bends I wanted) picked up a 2" section of muffler pipe (3" long) from the parts store went home and removed the plastic from the tank area (the whole front end) then removed the stock outlet tube, installed the new hose to the PVT, marked the point to be cut, cut, used the pipe to join the peices together with hose clamps, (make the splice as you go up into the side plastic area as this will allow room for it) the upper end is run up to the top of the tank and curves 90 degrees back down and is cut off so the opening faces to the rear of the machine. (keeping incomming water splash from comming in).
take your time, pull the plastic off first and look for the bends you will need to make this. when you put the plastic back on the hose will give into an eliptic shape and be hidden. (they is if you Mag. plastic is the same) I hope you can see the idea in words. Go Deep

Thanks for the info SEACOW... The Magnum PVT exhaust is larger in diameter than the older machines.. I think it has to do with the EBS system and the increased heat.. The factory exhaust outlet actually changes to a flattened out duct to clear the frame/side plastic... Therein lies my problem.. going from 3 1/2" opening to "pancake" without restricting the hot air.. I have thought about using swimming pool drain hose..(the kind that is REALLY flexible and collapses down flat without pressure.. but i'm not sure about its durability..)
You post has given me one other idea I will try this weekend... to come out of the PVT and turn 90 degrees at a DOWNWARD angle to clear the side plastic.. then finish running it..
I had a NICE setup on it once.. but there wouldn't be anything left of the side plastic by the time I got thru cutting it... So I took it back off...
On the inlet.... I really need to snorkel it also.. it is only up to the bottom of the gas tank... But, the exhaust is my FIRST concern...
Again.. thanks for the help... any other ideas you come up with... Just holler..
