Might be a dumb question, but...............

My brother is looking to buy a used DS. The owner says that is has been piped, jetted and a few other things. How can you tell if a bike has been jetted? I mean is there something specific you can look at? He wants to know for sure, becasue if its not jetted he wants to get it done. Also, is that a do it yourself job, or better left to the pros? Thanks.

Jetting is very simple. If you use a dynojet kit, they have reccommendations that are pretty close and you can fine tune it from there.
If you use stock jets, you just need to do some runs and see what she is doing. then you can jet up or down from there. I am no expert, but I can rejet my ds in about 10 minutes (now that I have the allen head screws).
I would not pay anyone to do it. And there really is no way to know if it has been jetted. Take it for a ride, if it runs really well then it is probably jetted pretty close. That is about the best you can do without opening up the carb.

Bat is on the money.
Check out Buttfungus's web site for jetting instructions (including the Dynojet instructions.)
Buy allen head screws and it is a 10 minute job.
If he doesn't give you the assortment of jets then the fact that it may have been jetted doesn't mean much (unless you will ALWAYS ride it at the same location.) You could pull the jet out and see what the number is on the jet to see if he has done it.
Also, if he has a K&N air filter see if he will throw it in the cleaner and re-oil kit with it or you will have to buy it yourself.
