How can I make them take back my 700 P.O.S.?

Anybody got any ideas about how to get out of my SP700? I have a total lemon, almost everytime I use something goes wrong. I love the ride, and the power is okay (could be better), but I can't deal with it breaking down all the time. It's one thing for them to keep fixing it (until the warranty runs out) but it doesn't change the fact that my weekend plans are constantly getting ruined. I haven't approached them yet, but I doubt they will be willing to take it back or give me a new one. I don't know what to do... I love Polaris, but if I get another one it may be junk, too, and if I get a 500 HO will I be happy? I want a big machine but the Grizzly, while much quicker, rides like crap compared to the 700, and I don't like the fact that the Prairie has no ground clearance and a live axle. Plus, the Grizzly and the Prairie don't come with real tires. Anyway, has anyone ever had any experience with a consumer protection issue like this? Should I call a lawyer?

I think the only difference between the 700 and the 500HO is the size of engine, other than a couple of different design changes they are alot alike. I have no problem keeping up with everybody else and going where everybody else goes with my 500HO. I weigh 250 lbs and have lots of throttle to spare. Polaris's 500 motor is basically bullet proof and the ride is the same as the 700.Did a few minor inexpensive mods and it's perfect for me.

I'm not sure if the lemon law applies to atv's or not. But I don't see how it wouldn't. You would probably have to check the lemon laws in your state or ask an attorney for advice. Polaris customer service is also a joke. They will tell you to contact your dealer. I know how you feel about the sp700, I have also had lots of problems but I think I have them all worked out. It took about 8 months of ownership though, and lots of trips back to the dealer. It got pretty frustating for a while. I had a clutch kit from aaen installed on my 700 and hurt a grizz owners feelings pretty bad, so I wouldn't say that a grizz is quicker. The grizz has it's problems too, but probably not as many. I guess your choice's are to hang in there and and get the bugs worked out or try to dump it. I traded a 2000 sp500 for the 700 and if I had it all to do over again, I would buy the 500H.0. I'd bite the bullet till the 03's come out and than make a decision. In the mean time, keep taking it back. Good Luck!!

Not sure about N.H. but the lemon law does apply to any vehicle that requires a registration here in Maine. You won't get anywhere with Polaris though. Bought a new 600 Classic sled last November. The first ride the starter fel out, all the bolts broke. Second ride the trailing arm broke, bad weld. Third ride trailing arm again, all the bushings went bad. The dealer was great even stayed late to get me back on the trails the next day on more than one occasion. But, the manufacturer was another story. Their comment was that I was the dealers customer and the dealer was their customer........So any remedy was the dealers responsability. To make a long story short, after many calls to Polaris they did extend the warrantee three months. By the way Maine's lemon law state that the vehicle must be returned to the dealer three time for the same defect while under warrantee. So if my trailing arm breaks one more time, they get to replace my sled for me..

My attitude changes about Polaris every day. They have to do something about their quality issues. It seems that they keep shoving the fact that they make some of the least reliable off-road vehicles aside.

That is the biggest bunch of BS I ever heard. Polaris can suck a fat one. What I don't understand is how the h*ll can Polaris not stand up for a product they made? The dealer is a customer of Polaris, sure. And as a customer, they are expecting a quality product to sell to their customers...A.K.A., us. And to not stand up for a product that came out of their facilities is a bunch of BS to me.
And as far as the 700 goes, RECALL EVERY SINGLE MODEL because they are the biggest P's of S to come out of Minnesota. I know I just probly got some 700 owners mad, but lets estimate a ratio of trouble free 700s to nothing but trouble 700's...I know it is a first year model, but there are just too many things going wrong that should have been cought before production if they were properly tested.
Just my opinion on the 700! Don't get mad.
P.S. I'll never own one. I'm looking into buying a Honda myself. My Polaris does nothing but nickel and dime me to death!!!

Lemons are inevitable, ya never know. This is a problem that should be taken care of with your warrenty and dealer. Personally I would'nt buy a new model until they have worked out all the bugs. Good luck.

I hate to sound so negative but after owning a POS 1999 Sportsman 500 and now a POS 2000 Xplorer,POLARIS manufactures very poor quality parts and are also the most problamatic ATVs in the ENTIRE ATV industry.I was in the same boat as you,EVERY time I went out with either ATV,it allmost allways had to be brought back into the shop for some kind of repairs.I am SICK of this!!
Yesterday,
I removed the few mods my Xplorer had,I returned it back to stock and will be selling the POS real soon.I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of the new 650cc 4x4 IRS Honda Rincon.Though it does not have as many features as the Polaris 4x4 ATVs,I gaureentee you that it wont have Polaris continued and unending problems with parts and reliabilty either.
It makes one very unpleasant to be making a paymnet on something that is continually tied up in the dealership for repairs.I'd repair the 700,sell it,and buy ANYTHING except a PULLaris.

Muddy,
forget the IRS issue, why not buy the 650 Kawi? the engine seems terrific, great handling, good looks, light weight, seems reliable.
as far as the 700? knock-on-wood mine has been 100% trouble free!
MainRider-"I was the dealers customer and the dealer was their customer........So any remedy was the dealers responsability."
WOW! if polaris ever kicked me in the *** with a comment like that i'd never buy another one! well, unless they apoligized and gave me a $500 gift certificate.LOL

This is one wierd day in the Polaris forum. I have over 2000 posts in the last two years and it seems like all the guys that used to talk Polaris with me way back are jumping ship... including myself! I have to say in all fairness that my Xplorer has been almost trouble-free and has never left me stranded or cost me "too much" at the dealer... the Scrambler on the other hand... hehe!
