I've heard that alot of the 2000 model 400ex's are setup with the throttle adjusted so that it is only putting out around 50-60% of the potential power. How do I check mine to see?

 

you should only have very little play in the throttle on the handle bars. If you have a lot of play the manual has the instructions to adjust. hope this helps

Losen and pull back the rubber boot that conects to the carb.Look into the carb, Now push the throdle to the bar. If that plate goes all the way up, It's right. If not adjust thumb throdle at handle bars till plate rises to the top of carb with throdle peged.
Then losen adjustment one turn (for play) then lock the nuts.
