Has anyone painted the plastic on their DS or other quad? What kind of paint works best? Number of coats? Clearcoat? Let me know good Any color choises? Also who has cut their rear plastic? Did you feel any difference from it?

 

I have been looking into this for some time now. I have been told to make sure you use a bonding agent as the first coat, then primer, atuomotive paints, and then a clear coat. All with a flex agent in them. The bonder is the key thing to get it to stick and not chip off.

 

I found this link on one of the other boards. It seems that this guy knows what he's doing -at least from the projects on the site and the info seems valid.

Plastic Refinishing

 

HURYCNE,Jeff posted a picture of my red ds,it was easy to do.You can go down to the automotive paint store and ask for flex primer,and get any color you want and add flex additive to it.It seems to run a little easier than most but goes on nice.Just scuff up the plastic so that it sticks good.You can flex the plastic all you want and it won't crack.

 

I think I rememberd what that bonder is called, Bullydog. Not sure though, but I know it is at least close and I know it's not that much. I would highly recommend doing it if you want it to last longer.

Black, What did you use to scuff it up? Then did you use some kind of cleaner on it before you primed? I know that is key too. Can someone throw up a link to that picture of yours? I would like to see it.

 

Demon--I used 220 then I went to 500 grit, then used zep glass cleaner to wipe it all down.Demon look at ext. garage 04-02-02 Jeff put in the picture then.

Ohh Yah, I remeber that thread now. Now that the cats out of the bag on it I wanted to kill you guys. I logged on day after day to find out what the scoop was on that thing and never figured it out till Jeff said something about it at Sand Mtn. LOL. Way sweet looking quad though. I am looking at staying black but with pruple and blue accents of some sort and some airbrushing. I have a freind thats just going to do it for nothing. ALl I have to pay for is materials. It should debut at DS Days. There are alot of things I want to do but this one is for sure. The others will be one at a time.
