Hi Guys,
Bit the bullet yesterday and got a 03 Cannibal. A freind of mine got one too, matched pair. Broke them in, everything was great. Changed the fluids, his wouldn't start. It just clicked like the battery was dead. We tried to charge it, didn't work, still dead. I rode mine a little more, IT DONE THE SAME DAMN THING! We took the batteries out of them, and pulled up the caps. Completely dry. Both of them. My question is, do you think the batteries came dry from the factory, or they have overcharged and boiled all the fluid out? If they had done the latter, I would have thought we could have smelled the fumes. I have heard of problems with the batteries keeping charge, but I only put maybe two hours on it since I first started it. Also, what is with the fan running with the ignition OFF? Please respond. BTW, I'm not a Corndog.
Thanks

Calm down. Your dealer did the same poor service as mine and that is that. My battery came to me without a charge and I had the same trouble the 1st weekend. Not a big deal overall. At least you have a forum like this one to get some help....JIM

This is YOUR DEALER'S PROBLEM!!!
The batteries on ALL quads regardles of the brand come dry in the crate and the dealer puts in the acid. A dry battery will actually have enough juice to start some machines but not for long. This sounds like your problem.
Cannondale uses the same Yuasa batteries that all the Jap companies use.
The fluid didn't boil out and it didn't leak out.
I would call the dealer you purchased it from first thing in the morning and raise a stink. ANY dealer knows that the battery has to have acid in it.
The acid is shipped WITH the quad in the crate. Looks like your dealer threw the acid on the shelf and forgot to put it in.

Sorry,
I may have posted a little extreme. You can't imagine how disgusted I was to be towed in by another quad, when mine had hardly any time on it. Alaska, it started strong every time, It seemed to be well charged. Those batteries are supposed to be MAINTENANCE FREE. You are not supposed to take out the plugs. How was I supposed to know the acid wasn't in it? The cranking didn't seem to slow down, until all of the sudden, click click click. KNOWSALOT, thank you for clearing the acid issue up. I had no idea the dealer was supposed to put it in.
BTW I'll edit some of the above.
Thanks

BlackBird1100XX,
Also, the fan will run even with the key in the "off" position if the temprature is high enough to activate it.
Don't be worried if it runs alot. The setting for the switch is actually lower than on other quads. Just a precautionary measure on Cannondales part...A good call.
You should hear mine run after a tight hare scramble race....LOL

BlackBird1100XX, aaahhhhh I view this as an opportunity to stroll back into your dealer all disgusted hoping to get some freebies because of their screwup!! Explain how you were 10 miles off the beaten path and got stranded because of the dead battery, that ought to be good for some free maintenance down the road or at least a new helmet!!

Blackbird,
Sorry if I jumped your sh#t, guess I still had indigestion from all those "corndogs"...lol. Like Patrick said, all quads come shipped without acid in the batteries and it is up to the dealer to take care of that detail. Unfortunately, not all dealers do. Heck, my local dealer told me that a Moto's stock headpipe/silencer combo is only 200.00; guess what? I ordered it!....LOL I doubt I will end up being able to walk out of there with it for that price, but that just shows how little effort some of the dealers put into our beloved 'Dales........JIM

Dex,
Still waiting for the Moto exhaust to arrive at the dealer, last week I was told that it is still coming though. I am not sure what will happen with the price, I am kind of just going to play dumb about it and see how that goes; seems to work well for my dealer. LOL I will be sure to let you know how it goes, this could be a defining moment in history afterall.... JIM
