Heel Guards Hitting Sand Paddles?
#1
I was at the Oregon dunes this past weekend and my new Maxxis Rooster v-paddles would hit the stock heel guards whenever I approached a hill at anything more than very low speed. Has anyone else ever experienced this problem? The paddles are the same size as the stock tires, so it isn't a matter of them being too big. Does anyone make replacement heel guards that are smaller than the stock ones? Also, does anyone make a billet aluminum shifter to replace the stock one? Thanks for your help!

Had the same problem with the stock plastic heel guards. I think my metal frame wasn't bent enough from the factory. I went through one of the plastic pieces before I ended up buying alum. ones from DiamondG. They really pull the plastic up and away from the tires.
If you are going to do a bit of sand riding or jumping they are the ticket.
Do a search on heel guards and you will find additional information. Ron Wood also sells them (they are DiamondG guards.)
How do you like the Rooster paddle tires?

My Skat Trac Edges hit my heel guards as well. They were hitting on the far outside of the heel guards. The tab looking part that sticks out the furthest. I just tool my dremel tool and neatly trimmed those tabs off. They don't hit anymore and the fix was free. It's not like I really had a choice anyway. One of the paddles had already started ripping one of the tabs off all by its self.

I really like the new Roosters a lot. They're probably no better than Sand Skate IIs or Scat-Trak Edges, but they seemed to work at least as well, plus they look totally cool! Does anyone know if the Diamond G heel guards will work with Roll Design footpegs? I'm thinking about getting a set of each, but I want to make sure they will play nice together...thanks!

Angry,
I have mixed feelings on the Edges. It really does all boil down to what type of riding one enjoys most. The edges are really fun for flying through sand trails, skating over hills and knolls, and kicking/sliding the back end around. They are not as good as the haulers at straight-line traction, i.e. drag racing, hill shooting/climbing. When I drag, I wish I had the extreme haulers, but the rest of the time I have a great time with the edges.
