Well,

it works for me...let me know if everyone can see them.

I used a Dremel tool with the cutting bit on 5 rpm. Used a free scetch outline for the design...(thanks to other pics from people). Bought gutter screen (black plastic) and epoxied them to the back side.

I dont think it looks to bad.

I took it for a 40 mi ride today, through the thick stuff and some water....NO sputtering, NO heating problems either. Tell ya what, you can feel the heat that rolls out of the sides now. Its not that hot, but at least the bike can BREATH!

The link worked, no problem. It's good to see someone take the initiative to fix what is obviously a design flaw. (Yamaha should take a lesson and provide similar panels as a fix instead of the tinfoil stickers they are using as a band aid) Not a bad looking job!

frogman,
nice job on the panels buddy! it really does make a differance on the temp of the quad!!! i am real glad i did mine too. one downflaw to doing it is that when you cause steam, it gets a little hot, lol.

The only time i REALLY notice the heat is when i am squeezing the tank with my leg....like sharp corners...other than that, it's really not that bad. Tell ya what, you can smell the foul stench of muck alot better!!!! lol

I have a new story, and i will post it for you.....its a must read! hehe

Rubi500,

I was SOOOO close to using crazy glue/super glue, but i chose 5 min epoxy.
IF i did it again...i would still consider the other two, just because i have used them with plastics before and they work extremely well. I chose the epoxy because of others that had done the same mod used it and it works. You will smell the epoxy when it heats up the first time but havent noticed it since.

The job looks real stylish. I was going to open mine up more at the cowling cut-out that is at the bottom of the pannel.
One question that I have is: When I am running slow, I get alot of raw gas fumes. I have not fixed the heat problems yet, but soon I will. I am thinking that this problem is linked to the boiling gas in the carb. Every body around here still think I'm nuts when I tell them that its boiling in the carb.
I ruined my rear rack paint the other day. She came up just fine but I had a brain cramp and was grabing the front brake instead of the rear brake and over rotated and scraped it for quite a ways down the road.
just havin way too much fun with it. but I did get about 175 yrds out of a wheely. DJ
