I found a Barely broke in Raptor for $4,600. Sounds pretty good , what should I watch out for and what were the 01's short comings? I remember somthing about the carb boots and bad clutch baskets and some quirky handling...The way I'm looking at it is ...its a step up on my old warrior. Any info would be appreciated.

Some will tell you a weak tranny. Don't let that scare you. Way, way more 2001 trannys have not failed than those that have. The rear axles were said to be weak and the carb boots come off from time to time. None of which I and many others have had any problems with. You'll notice a wide gap between 1st and 2nd gear. Its a great quad. Enjoy it. I know you will.

Hey so the GAP is a gearing thing? I do remember something about dropping a tooth in the front. How's the air box hold up? I see you modded yours ( alot)
I'm going tuesday to pick it up...$4600 is a good price?!

The spread between 1st and 2nd on the 01 Raptors is to big. When you shift into 2nd theres a noticable drop in RPM. Its not a big deal realy. You'll get used to it. I droped a tooth on the front and it helps that. But then I went to larger rear tires so I'm basically back where i started. The airbox is fine but, the stock air filter mount is crap. I'd invest in a pro design setup either foam or K&N style. I bought my sisters 2001 for $4800.00. Its was hardly rode. But I also knew who rode it and how much. If the quad is clean and well maintained then $4600.00 to me is a good price.

If you buy an 01 Raptor, keep in mind the tranny could break......mine is broke NOW!

Geeze How'd it break? And how much is it to replace it etc etc? Also I'm getting this at my local Kawi dealer and he's pretty cool and all but this bike won't have a manual with it. So I need to know gas and oil recomendations.

Sorry, try this. Alba I use Yamalube 4.

Just for your info. 4-600 if you do the work yourself. 1000-1500 if your dealer does it. To fix the tranny.
