How much would you pay for this 400 EX?

A good friend of mine has a 2001 400EX. It has AC nerfs and PRM skids on everything. The plastic has some small scratches, but no cracks at all. The enging/intake/exhaust is all stock. Everything works perfect and the bike runs great and has never been wrecked or rolled. He said he'd sell it to me for $3800. What do you think? Does the price sound right? Should I get it?

How many hours on it, how hard of use did it have? Does it use oil? Are there any frame cracks? Do the shocks leak? Do any of the engine cases or gaskets leak? INSPECT THE AIR FILTER, if it is missing or loose the engine is possibly hosed. If it still has original tires, they can tell you something about how much use it has seen. For example, around here we have soft dirt, hard dirt and some slickrock. Tires on utility machines around here are pretty used up after 1500-2000 miles. How are the swing arm bearings? How are the chain/sprockets? Are the brake rotors grooved or warped? Standing an ATV on its rear end (like too much wheelie) lets you look for bent A arms, crushed cases, f#@%ed frame, smashed swing arm, crooked cables, angled axles, hurting hubs, mangled motor mounts, etc. If you can't tell, have a shop or friend you trust go through it, even if they charge you some $ it will be worth it. Repair costs add up fast on these high-tech toys, and even Hondas can break. Caveat Emptor-let the buyer beware. Good luck!

Thanks guys.... I got the loan and will be going over to his house tonight to get it. I'll report my final thoughts. I also have checked over the entire bike, I can see nothing wrong at all. We'll see.

Well..... I got it. I was out riding all weekend. I love it. I'm having some issues getting used to a 4-stroke, but I'll learn. I've always ridden two strokes. It's a little tricky to start when it's cold, but I'll get used to it. I really like the AC nerfs and the PRM skids on everything. Thanks for the help everyone.
