I got my K&N the other day so I was going to take off the lid, snorkle and jet the thing. Pipe will be here any day this week.
While trying to remove 2 of the cheap brass screws from the carb I stripped them. Man they were in there and I used the best screwdriver I could find, they still stripped. I went to the hardware store today and found some replacement screws that looks like the would work, just the allen type now, not some weak brass phillips thing. I do know they use brass so you don't get a spark, but they overtorqued it from the factory.
I got my dremel out and slowly grinded the heads off the remaining 2 screws. Pulled off the bowl and I'll be damned if the jet was not torqued to 1000 ft lbs too! Pulled all the needle tube with main and put it in a vice. Finally got it apart and jetted with my 152.5! It all went back together and runs so I'm stoaked!!! Hopefully my HMF will be here tomorrow. I'm jetted for it so I'll toss it right on and be ready for the weekend.

I stripped one of mine while at a riding area. Haven't even attempted to get it off yet. Can't ride anyways. Every riding spot within 150 miles is closed because of fire danger.

Wasssup Quido39? I'm the guy who bought your Laeger swingarm for my LT250R on Ebay. Just wanted so say sup?
OKAY here is the tech question: got my new Z400 on friday night, ran it around the neighborhood for 3 to 4 hours that night going thru heat cycles for breaking it in because I wanted less time for breaking in at the local mx track. Got to the track on sunday a rode arouund for about another 4 hours at half throttle, then it was TIME to open her up. WHAT a disappointment! Low end is okay, mid...hmmm okay, after mid it falls on its face! (a Freaking Blaster beat me!) I live in Denver, CO (5500 ft) and when I picked up the quad the dealer said they have been sending them out with the stock jetting with NO complaints. Well anyway after the Blaster beat me I chalked it up to just needing a little more time for things to seat in and rode the rest of the day at half throttle, sometimes opening her up for short bursts, later that day she started backfiring when I would let off the throttle from top speed. I took off the airbox lid thinking she is starving for air, but all that did was make her sound more throaty.
Any ideas?

Take it back to the dealer and have them compare it to another one. You got a tird I think. Mine HAULS the mail on top end. There is a lot more top end than mid and bottom. It might be jetting on yours but I think it's something else.

BarelyLegal & Guido39, One thing that I have learned about re-jetting is to have extra bowl screws on hand before you do it..There is no doubt that you are going to strip the head of at least one of them, if not all. there is a trick to getting the stripped ones out without damaging the carb or having to use a dremel to cut the head of the screw off. You need a small set of vise grips with teeth on them all the way to the nose. Some grips have them some don't, you need the ones with them. Put the nose of the vise grips on the screw sideways, put them on as tight as possible then, presto loosen the screw. Make sure that you replace the stripped screw with a new one. I have rejetted several carbs and have not found an easy bowl screw to get out yet. This little trick works every time. Hope this helps you fella's out...

Keep on Riding!!

I have the end cap off, no lid, and took the cover off the snorkel, but the snorkel is still on. I'm close to 5000ft. Try a 140 main. My brother and I did and they run great!!!!

Barley Legal whats the deal w/ the HMF pipe? Do you use the rubber bushings off the stock silencer?? How do you get them out if you do?? I'm fighting this thing...My brother got a spacer for the rear bolt by the airbox w/ his full Yoshi system so he doesn't need the stock rubber spacers..
