I took the Z out to a friends farms this weekend. There was a county road leading up to the gate that is all dirt. It's about 8 miles long and straight but undulating. There is a good stretch that is flat and straight and I used this to get my max speed reading. With the throttle wide open in 5th I reached 67.2 mph. I used a Garmin Etrex GPS to get the speed reading. I'm a heavy guy so that speed may be a little slower than the rest of you are getting.

Does it bump the rev limiter in 5th or run out of horses?

Just curious,

Later...

Finally someone has a top speed, I was getting worried for a little while that one of these yellow thumpers would eat me up.

Upgrade to a 51 HP modified DRZ motor, and not much is going to hang with it. Just going to take a while for the aftermarket to catch up.

How much do you weigh, if you don't mind? I've had mine up to 70 so far, nowhere near the rev limiter. I ran out of road and had to skid it down to normal speeds. I weigh 215. With the pipe and stuff I hope to reach the stock limiter this weekend.

It took a couple months for the Raptor parts to start shipping, it'll be interesting to see where the Suzuki settles in. I'm sure it'll be ahead of the 400EX, but will it ever compete with the Cannondale?

The DRZ having the same basic motor should help speed it up, but probably a year or so before a working man will be able to afford the parts we want. When the bigger companies start to put together combo packages with cams, rev limiters, pipes and such, then I'll start the NEED FOR SPEED project all over again.
