SP500 Horsepower

18-20 hp to the rear wheels. @ 500-1,000 ft. alt. The 500HO in the Scram500 gets 27-28 to the ground. It doesn't make anywhere near 32 hp at the flywheel, only in dreamland. The Explorer 400 will run circles around a stock 500.

I had seen the "dealer only" video of the SP 500 against the Grizzly, and it too said 32hp. Recently found out as well that the engine is meade in Japan by Fuji Industries. Don't matter, mine still runs, hehehe, only had it for 3 months since new.

As I said, in dreamland in the marketing world, if you care to believe that. No way on this planet that the SP500 motor makes 32 hp, marketing hype abounds. They may have made it in the lab "on one given day" at the flywheel. Doesn't mean a thing. What you get to the rear wheels is all that matters, the other numbers are meant to sell machines. In absolute reality the SP 500 only makes 18-19 hp to the rear wheels on a dyno. Everyone has tested them and it's a fact. That's why the Grizz will beat a "stock" SP500 every time on top end. The Grizz's "soft" clutch allows the SP500 to get a jump. I've ridden both many times. The Explorer 400 will put about 26-27 hp to the rears, far better than the Grizz or SP500, or any other utility quad for that matter.

I hope a 600 grizzly has more power than a SP500 it's 100cc larger but what is the hp rating of the engine of the Sportsman? I have heard it has 18 hp to the wheels but not what hp comes off the crank. If it is 32 hp isn't 32-18=14hp a lot of power loss by the time it get to the wheels?
