Yamaha's Customer # and what you should be asking for "grizzly"
#1
Here it goes:
800-962-7926
This is the only # that i have for cust. support. sometimes it takes a while to get through, but be patient and DO IT.
There are a couple of issues that the grizzly has been having. There are fixes out there for the griz, but yammy doesnt want to fork out the money (service bulletin) so you have to CALL and DEMAND these items for your bike.
1. Heat shield package. This is to reduce the amount of heat that is trapped in the engine compartment. consists of foil tape for carb bowl, exhaust tape, and foil tape under the tank. There are issues of the valves going out of wack quicker because of the amount of heat that the engine is being put under. It also has caused gas boiling (in tank/carb), sputtering issues, and will wear down your engine quicker.
2. Floorboard supports. If you look at your floorboards in the back inside corner, you probably notice that it is pulling away from the plastic fender. The supports underneath the floorboards are weak. If you hit anything with them, they will bend, and if you stand/jump/dismount your bike bearing weight on the floorboard, it will sag.
Both issues have been addressed with Yamaha. I dont care WHAT they say, it has. As of now, these are the issues that i have brought up with them, and they ARE fixing them.
Stand together, stand strong.
I would recommend calling if you have any issues with your griz and make yourself heard. You have the support of all of us out here, and no one is standing ALONE.

Just to let you know I have called the number like a lot of other people and get the usual response: I have not heard of the particular problem and you must take of the problem at your dealer.
I have gone to a dealer in town, and like most of them, they have not heard of either problem. I took pictures of the plastic pulling away from the floorboards and where the side panels don't clip into the plastic properly. He finally called Yamaha and they are supposed to send me the new floorboard supports. I have been waiting a month now, I told him I would check back in a couple of weeks. It is my understanding, and reading on other forums that there won't be any available till mid July. I am going to stay on top of it and hopefully get the supports.
I haven't experienced the boiling gas, vapor issue so I am not going to worry about the new insulation tank shield. I saw a picture on a forum somewhere and you can buy the insulation anywhere.

There is a little more than just some tape for the tank...one of the big things is...and they are putting this on the 03 models...some sort of "ram air" that will increase the air flow around the engine. I am not really sure on what this is, as i have not got it yet either. Same with the floorboards....mid July before they are in stock again.

I got my floorboard supports last week... They sure make a difference...
They took 5 weeks to come in... same thing...back order.. I broke both sides of my fenders on my silver grizzly. Where the floorboards connect to the rear fenders. Closest to the outside. They just ripped about 2 to 3 inches in on both sides.. This was on my second ride on the bike. Yamaha replaced the rear fender. Ruffly $500 bucks Can.. Dealer said... They should make the fender two peices to cut the cost if you broke one side...(Just my thoughts...) Anyone else have problems with there silver plastic??? Well anyways... I do feel lots of heat on my legs from the sides of the tank.. I'll ask the dealer next time by about the heat tape..
Thanks for all the info guys... Great work!!!!

The only problem that i have had with the silver griz is that it is my wifes and not MINE. lol
Honestly, the silver seems to scratch pretty easy, but heck, i bought it to ride and enjoy. If i wanted a show bike, i would have bought one. I bought the griz because i thought it would be the baddest **** out there

I got a late 2002 grizz and all I can say is they have extensive heat shielding already in this thing, maybe I ought to take pictures and compare to the early 2002's, perhaps some of the upgrades were worked in over the year. I had a floorboard replaced under warranty already, I'm game for supports too. I've torn my front fender where the floorboard meets it, that was caused from hanging that 'edge' up on brush, are the fenders seriously that expensive?(325$?) I was going to put steel straps along the fender edges and rivet them in place every couple inches.
