its offical we are going to sell my raptor, i like it alot it has alot of power, but it is mainly a reliablity issue, because everything breaks on it, we replaced the transmission and im afraid it will go out again, im going to strip it down, take off the stuff like the nerfs and wheels that i can reuse. my dad went today to go put the deposit on a new z-400, so i will have that in a week,

Don't worry, you'll love the Z. I replaced my Raptors with one as did one of my friends. It handles great right out of the box and seems to love being abused{except for the axle}. Pipe adds a bunch just like on the Raptor.

Sounds like you are replacing an old 1st year bike with a new 1st year bike.

Was your replacement transmission an '01 or an '02 transmission?

Good luck.

I want to start by saying "I don't wish bad on anyone"! To continue, I think you "could be" trading one problem for another. A first year anything, is more likely to have problems then the second year, NO MATTER WHAT!

The Z has not been tried and trued (so to say) in a quad chassis and to the abuse a quad is put through. Sure the motor came from a dirt bike which "was" durable, but not proven in the chassis of a quad. I really hope it is reliable and up to the abuse a quad takes!

Look, already there are axle problems (probably a Yamaha design, hehe), who knows what's next? I own a Rap and have had more then my share of problems, but that's what I get for wanting the first Rap in my area. You have to pay to play!

The trans in the Z "could be" a weak link also. I don't know and you don't know, atleast not yet. Time will tell!

So before you jump one wagon for another, you might just want to reconsider your new purchase. If you truly feel the need to send the Rap down the road, do it, but don't do it to purchase another brand that has not proven itself just quite yet. C-dale had it's fair share of 1st year problems, the Raptor, the LT 500, the Banshee, etc, etc, etc. the list goes on. The first year is the worst year to buy, it's real simple.

I hope I've opened your eyes here, it would really be a bad feeling to trade one problem for a whole other problem.

Good luck!

I agree with Swytak, I rode the Zuki and was hardly impressed. I guess I was expecting more from all the hype. Ride one first!

DO what you like, but I dont agree. My 01 raptor has given me ZERO problems so you really cant blame allthe machines that have been built for your bad luck can you? I think the others are right as far as first year production problems though. You could be in for more of the same.

I sold my Raptor for the same reason....I bought a Dale. I have a problem w/ my Dales front end. I need a new frame or I suggested adjustable Moto A arms. They are giving me +3 arms for free w/ tie rods, brake lines, and free labor that will fix my problem. I had to drop my Raptor motor and eat the labor and they wouldn't give me 02 gears. I would have too agree. My Raptor tranny is broken now and can't imagine buying another 1st year quad. There is a huge amount of additional stress when going from 4-5" of contact area too 20".
