Scrambler throttle HUNG WIDE OPEN.. then hits a tree
#1
I rode Windrock in Tennessee this weekend. Was having an awesome day riding some trails until about 5pm on Saturday. I was coming out of a creek bed on some slippery rocks. I didnt hit it with enough momentum so gave it some throttle. Well the throttle HUNG WIDE OPEN! I came off and it launched full throttle riderless into the woods. I could only sit there and watch as my Scrambler went and slammed into a tree and fliped over breaking my left side A-arms. (not bending, BREAKING)
I am now so pi**ed I dont know what to do. That is about the most dangerous thing that I think can happen to an unsuspecting rider. A guy I was riding with said that Polaris recalled some of the Scramblers for this very reason. But I never got such a notice and my dealer has never performed such a repair on it. So now Its going to cost me only god knows how much to fix it since it not only broke the a-arms, but broke the brackets the a-arms attach to. Some of the plastic is messed up as well. I guess it could have been worse. I could have still been on it when it hit the tree.....

I feel your pain. My Raptor snorted the carbs partially off and it hung wide open in 2nd gear.....needless to say, it was rodeo time. I installed a kill switch later.

Here is the link to Polaris web site for the recall. It has the S/N's of the effected bikes.

Thanks for the link xcrider. I took a look at it an noticed my VIN didnt seem to fit in there. So I decided to call Polaris for some more info. I just got off the phone with Polaris. I talked to a nice woman up there named Rebecca who answered my questions and listened to my problem... However, Rebecca being as nice as she was, was speaking for the company she works for .. And her company Polaris pretty much gave me a big heart felt F***K YOU!!!!
Does it seem like I might be a little mad? Its because I am. She told me there was a recall on some 2000 model Scrambler 400 4x4s. I told her that I had not heard anything about it. She checked my VIN number and mine WAS NOT on the recall list. (explaining the reason why I didnt know about it since I hadnt been sent a letter)
Obviously there is a problem with my throttle that sounds like the same as the ones on the recall. But Polaris sees it as "some" 2000 Scrambler 400 4x4s had a throttle problem, but there is absolutly no way my 2000 Scrambler 400 4x4 could have the same problem. Freak coincidence as far as Polaris is concerned..
(what I wouldnt give to wrap my hands around the neck of a Polaris executive right now)

Here is a link to the Consumer Product Safety Commission that Polaris says there were working with for the inital safety recall. On this site is a place you can tell them about problems you are having and I assume if enough complaints come in to them, a recall is looked at.
I am guessing no insurance on your end???
Good luck!

wow, that's bad. On an automatic too. That this would wind all the way out unlike most quads. Glad you hit the "ejection" handle of you might have ended up like Sony Bono. Did you have your helmet on?

My 2000 Scramber 2X4 never stayed locked wide open, but on one ride it did a couple of those "Keep runnin wide open for a second after you let off" numbers. Thats a scary feeling.
I found no reason for it, but did lube the cable with some silicone spray. Never did it after that.
Glad to see you didn't get hurt.
