I am new to ATV's. I bought a 1996 kodiak. I want to change the oil but don't know where to start. Can someone tell me where to find the filter and What weight oil to use and how much. Again, may be a dumb question but want to do it right. I don't have many dealers around me to ask.

I don't have a Kodiak, so I can't give you any specifics on an oil change. But, the first thing you should do is buy a repair/maintenence manual for it. They're about $25-30, and well worth the $$$.

don't buy the owner's manuel they are useless. CLYMER sells a REPAIR manuel for all bikes and quads, they are 40+ dollars canadian, they give step by step directions which allow you to do a total motor job. 10W-30 is a good weight for -20 40 degrees celcius

In the future try to be a little more specific about what you need help about in your topic line. It will help you get more "looks" from people.

The cheapest place I've found for repair manuals isMotorcylebooks.com The manual you need is Clymer No. 36-1038 which covers Kodiaks from 1993-1998. They get $21.95 + 3.50 to ship it to you and they are SUPER people to deal with. Dennis Kirk also has it, (www.denniskirk.com) but they get $26.99 + shipping for the same book. The Clymer manual is the only one you'll need. For my Warrior I have the Clymer and the Yamaha factory service manual, and I never touch the factory manual (and it was $40!)
