Alright,

I have sidepanel mods and yesterday i went for a short ride (only 3/4 tank used). I found myself stuck in that increadable mud that we call "muck". It wasnt a really DEEP stuck, just one of those where you have both tires (one side, left to be exact) deep in and the other side not stuck. (tilting to one side, does that make sense?) lol

Anyways, after a LITTLE winching....the bike was overheated. The light was on. This is only the second time the LIGHT has ever came on. I didnt have any sputtering at all. I turned the bike off, turned the key back to run and let the fan cool her down for a while. The fan kicked off but the light was still on. I took it for a FAST ride and finally got the light to kick off.

Is anyone else having the bike overheat? having the light come on? I really only hit ONE mud spot, and like i said, the radiator and everything was not obstructed, just tilted in the mud to one side. It was warm up here, but NOT that hot. I would say....high 80's, low 90's?

I just had the radiator flushed about a month ago when i blew out the hose. So i know the fluid is not bad. Any suggestions?

Jonathan

jonathan,
thats a tricky one there, lol. i know that when i pulled my radiator out, it had ALOT OF MUD packed into it. i always cleaned it real good, but never emagined there could be that much!!! other than that, might i sudjest removing the side panels totally when riding on 90 degree + days. that is quite hot for a big quad to be revving itself out of holes in. highlifter has a temp gauge for the grizzly. it looks like it is quality, and is only $89.00 + shipping. goodluck!!!

You can also replace the coolant with Engine Ice to achieve a cooler running motor. It is expensive though, usually $17 per half gallon, already mixed. Check it out Engine Ice Boyessen makes high performance water pump covers and impellers for most Yamaha motors, but not for the 660 yet. I called them when I had my Raptor and asked for them and they said they were "considering it". That was a year ago.

It is going into the shop tomarrow. The dealer thinks its an air bubble in it from when they replaced the hose.

Will keep you updated.

jonathin,
if it only an air bubble, you can handle it! just take your baby, throw it on your shoulder, and burp it!!! heehee. god, do i have to teach you everything, lmao!!!make sure you have a rag on your shoulder, couse sometimes they spit up oil, heehee. if that dont work, then put it on your knee, and jently roll it back and forth, lmfao!!! sometimes, a little love can go a long ways!!! they have a way of eating mud so fast, they gulp it. then, they get gas, heehee.

Try wraping your head pipes with a header wrap available for hod rods. At slow speeds, my grizz head pipes will glow red. That's where most of the heat comes from and eventually radiate to the engine and surounding.

I did the header wrap on mine all the way past the carb and it keeps everything much cooler. It even makes overall mechanical sound quiter.

Get a 2" wrap strip. Remove your head pipe and shield. Soak the wrap in water and start at where it fits to the head and work your way back forming it to the pipe bend. Use stainless hose clams at each ends and it'll turn out like professional race pipe. Put your shield back on and bolt it up.

The extreme heat (especially under todays summer condition) will also cause the engine to spotter. this is because the air intake temp is too high. Add steam on top of that and she will gag.

The header wrap will reduce intake air temp but I had to drop the jetting (about 2 sizes) and she runs great. Actually what this thing needs is a fresh air intake. The stock air intake is under the tank cover so it pulls a lot of heat and make the jetting too fat. That's my next project is to make a good looking fresh air intake duct.

Header wrap and jetting made my Grizz come to life but I want more HP with cold air intake so I'm off.
