the best sudjestion i can give is from experiance. i have found the valves to be quite a problem if out of adjustment. you can gt spuddering alot, and in my case, overheating. my griz ran real hot till i desited to do a valve adjustment. i didn't do it due to heating, but couse it needed it. when i did it, it seemed to run cooler. fan came on less, and never overheated after that. i now do them every 25 hours. also, have you done anthing to your side covers? there are alot of mods out there to releace heat! my mods to the side covers is pritty simple. others are ausome, and can take a little longer! they sell heat shield stuff for the grizzly too. i have not installed it yet, couse i dont feel i need it. also, look into the radiator. if you cant see light through it, use a hose to blow out the dirt. i spend about 10 minutes after every muddy riding day, just flushing my radiator with water to make sure its clean. just some sudjestions, and good luck!!!

i know this question wasn't directed towards me, but it's not that hard, just take the tank off and buy a set of feeler gauges (I'm not sure of the clearance specs) take off the covers on the head cap, and losen the lock nut on the valve stem, and take the feeler gauge and place it between the rocker arm and the valve stem, tighten the screw down until you feel a slight resistance on the feeler gauge. then re-tighten the lock nut, and put the caps back on. make sure to get the clearance specs, and remember the intake and exhaust clearances are different.
hope this helps.

i can only sudjest buying a book, or better yet, the c.d. about the grizzly! i can give you the bare basics about it though.
1.) remove front rack.
2.) remove gas tank cover.
3.) remove gas tank.
4.) remove white plastic cover that lies under the gas tank.
5.) remove the plastic surrounding the pull rope on the left side of the quad.
6.) remove the pull rope.
7.) remove the right front tire.
8.) remove the black shield behind the right front wheel. 2 screws remove it, 10 mil.
9.) where the engine puller was, is a black cap. it comes off with a big flat head screwdriver.
there are lines behind the black cap that can get you to top dead center.
i can tell you that is what has to come off to do them. from there, i can type in all the info, but it is better if you read the manual, and study all the steps from there! there are 3 intake valves that need to be adjusted. the 2 exhaust valves can be reached fron the removed tire.
it took me 2 hours the first time, and now i can do it in an hour. it aint that bad to do, but is VARY NECESSARY!!!
i really think the c.d is the best thing to learn from to do this. you can get one from others in this forums. good luck!!

a used '02 Grizzly with 318 miles and it overheated on the FIRST ride?
i'd say BACK TO THE SELLER with it!
it's THEIR problem, not yours!
was it a purchase from a dealer or private party?
it really doesn't matter.
what should you do? i'd put the seller ON NOTICE!
IN WRITING and verbally!
GOD! don't you think they knew this was going to happen?
of course!
GOOD LUCK!

mich660 i will get a book asap. i have my machine tore all the way down to the motor as you said. i checked the intake .004(tight) the plate on the machice says .010-.015 intake should a guy go .015 and that exhaust is unreal to get to but it says .015-020 again go with .020. does a guy need an angled feeler guage to do the exhaust?

glad to see you have gotten there. just a note. make sure your on the intake stroke. a few people have finished adjusting them only to hear alot of tapping, and doing it all over again. your right on the numbers!!!.015 is what i do on the intake, couse they tighten up quite quick. the exhaust on mine, and many others from what i hear, have never been off. the exhaust is quite a challange to get to. the first time, i used a small mirror to see my way. now i can feel it real easy. i have never had to touch my exhaust, it has always been within specs. so, just check them, couse i'm sure there there. i dont use an angle guage to do mine. it takes some small bending, but it will fit, lol. i am willing to bet( taking up to 2 minutes just to get the guage into the valve space) that your exhaust is on specs though! good luck, and i am willing to bet this is going to be quite nice once done!!!
