Almost time to change the oil. The dealer tells
me that if I use anything else other than Honda oil it will void my warrenty!

What type of oil does everybody use?

Tell your dealer that he is in violation of the Magnuson Moss Act by attempting to require you to purchase Honda Oil. That is an illegal act.

I have Honda 10W40 HP4 oil in my DS650 that may be causing problems. I am changing to 20W50 non-synthetic oil.

I, too would like to use a quality oil made by a major oil company in my new Rancher ES. Does anybody know of a brand which is equal to the HondaHP4 oil?. Theirs is SO expensive. Thanks.

Read through your owners manual and follow the recomended api service classifications and viscosity and you should be ok. The manual for my foreman states your oil should be classified as SF or SG. So just read the label to make sure it meets that classification and you should be ok. I know that some dealers can be pretty picky when it comes to the warrenty coverage.

I think Mobil1 makes HP 4 for Honda and now have released their own line of motorcycle oil and 2 stroke mixes so that may be a cheaper way to go.
