I understand what you are going through. I have a son age 5, we bought him a suzuki quadmaster 50 last year, and it has been a great little machine. It is good for learning a little bit about riding, but it does not have enough power to take it on a trail ride or in the sand.

I know that you are looking into 90cc quads or that class anyway and that is what I would suggest.

I would not reccommend the ds90, only because it is not built by bombardier and it is just like alot of the off brands of mini, made in taiwan. They very little if any suspension and what they have is way to stiff for kids.

Most mags will reccomend the honda sportrax 90 or the suzuki 80.

They still dont have much suspension to them. I like the LEM quads, but they are only 50's. I dont know a whole lot about them, but they offer the most suspension I have seen and I think there are a lot of modifications you can do to make them a little faster.

I would stick to one of the main brands or, look for something with a fair amount of suspension travel. I personally like the suzuki 80. But I am seriously looking for a quad with some travel.

Sorry to ramble on, hope it helps some.

I would go for a Bombardier Rally and somehow limit the throttle. They offer a base for a kid to learn on and improve on and partisipate in real rides when they get a bit older. They also offer a real suspention which will offer a better safer ride for the kids back. Im not 100% sure but i think the Rally does have a throttle limiter.

Im not sure how old your kid is. If he or she is two small for a rally but will fit on a DS50 or 90 then you dont really have a choice.

I would not do a rally for a 6 year old. It is too big and too much engine, unless he has been riding for a few years and is very large for his age.

Just my 2 cents

I started my son on an LT80 at 4 1/2,just turned the throttle limiter down, but you'll be surprized how fast they get their riding skills! I took him for his first real trail ride at 5 1/2,just kept it easy,no fast corners, and he had a blast, the LT80 has lots of pep,and with an easy clutch mod, is a hill climbing little monster!! The Honda 90 is great, just have to learn to shift, and it is physically bigger. Both have a rather short (2-2 1/2&quot suspension, not bad, just bouncy on rough trails. Kasea has some nice shocks on theirs, and their quality is pretty good. I heard someone say LEM is very sporty, good looks, suspension, and decent quality.I looked at the mini DS,the shocks are so stiff, even I (180 lbs)had a hard time flexing them, and they are a lot slower than other minis. Don't know if you are looking new or used, you could probably pick up a used LT80 for 1000- 1500 bucks, with the belt drive, they are easy to learn on,and the 2 stroke is oil injected,so just gas and go! Of course, there are a lot of companies out there that sell performance parts to really wake up the little motors when your kid is ready. Just take your time, look them over real careful, and remember, kids grow fast, give them one that can grow with them.

Well we got a DS 2 stroke and a rally and a LT 80... i dont think the rally is apprpriate for him because im 14 and suits me good. My 10 year old bro has the ds 2 stroke. that would be good for him because you can just adjust the throttle. It will be good for him for a wile. Since its automatic it will be that much easier for him. And you can get a light for the mini DS so that will be good. The Ds and LT go about the same speed when you really rev them out. I would have to go with the DS 90 because a rally would be to big and a 50 would not last him that long. Keep looking around and you could find a LT80 im sure you can get a light kit on those also. but i would pick the Ds probly over the Lt becuase the Ds has more to keep your feet on wile the LT is just on peg sorta thing. But i think the LT handles and turns sharper and better then the Ds. But my to bros jump their quads and love them to death so you make your decesion...good luck

I have the DS90 for my 6 year old. It is a good machine I wanted the electric start and no gears to shift for him. The Honda and Suzuki you will have to pull start for him, thats not what I wanted to do. Been looking for some mods but none availiable to date. My son likes orange to.

Thanks to all for your input. Still really not sure but i must say i love the yellow and orange. I am going to be getting this as a X-mas gift for him so i have a little time to play with. There are so many brands out there and i am freaking out every ATV mag. has something great to say about everyone and they have bad things to say. I am taking all suggestions and personal thoughts of everyone. So keep'em coming...

STILL A MOM...JUST MORE CONFUSED...LOL

musthavefn--- the LT80 is and always has been- electric start, you can get a pull start as an add on ,but it will still be electric. The Honda 90 is a pull start only. You can put a small, low wattage light on the handlebars on the LT80,and I rigged up a mini red marker light as a tail light. As long as you don't run them on all day long, the battery will hold up fine, but the stator isn't set up to handle a load much bigger than charging the battery.

you probly want a electric start...kawi came out with a mini quad but you can obviously tell its a suzuki LT80(suzuki and kawi are together on some stuff) well the DS90 is very sporty comes with good tires and the brakes are good. the DS dose not have a foot brake but i dont think that really matters. One thing for sure the DS90 Artic cat 90 and polaris sportsman 90 they all have the same engine just a different "costume". Youre probably looking for something sporty or something like sportsman??? did you get the addition of dirt wheeles august 2002 well it had just about all the lil quads out and some specs on all of um well thats bout it.....
