MOTOR MODS- NEED FACTS , OPINIONS AND EXPERIENCE PLEASE

earlier i saw a post saying ds's are not cheap to mod. 1st question i have is : can you sleeve a ds motor if you overbore instead of nikasil ? why would a ds motor be more costly to mod then say a raptor ? (taking into account the parts cost factor). pistons, port work, cams (2), exhaust, carb, etc... should not be much more if any then any other model or make of the same displacement. i got my ds about a month ago and now i am considering mods. i have the big gun exhaust and rwr cdi and a K&N. where would some of you go from here ? do any of you guys have any parts that you want to sell ? i found a guy in NH that had a set of cams, intake, springs, 45mm carb, for sale and i lost his #. his name was damien. any help ?? how hard can you mod a ds before you lose major reliability ? hightower, i wanna hear from you ! thank you all.

The reason it has been costing more, is because 1. there are fewer DS's running around to mod, and 2. there have not been many doing mods for the DS.
I was looking into all this stuff awhile back and decided not to for personal reasons.
I think the consensus was that pami products tended to be better and give better performance. But now who knows what happened to knutz and I dont know if anyone else is doing pami stuff.
I think other builders are getting into the ds market, which should be great for us ds owners. I have decided that if I cannot do it myself, I will not do it. I just dont trust any of these builders yet.
The nikasil process does not really add that much, so that is yet another reason it should not cost more. I cant really help you out, but I think soon the ds will be getting even faster as more builders decide to build ds's.

Aside from the nikasil coating, and having the two cams instead of just one, the only reason I can think of for higher priced mods is the whole supply/demand factor. The high performance kits offered by RW and Pami were the only ources for a while, but now that Web, Sam Coe, Barnett, Trinity, and whoever else is into the market for the DS things are really looking up.
A JE piston for a DS is no more cost than for the Raptor, and Web cams are a decent deal too, except we need two. The nikasil is a good thing - its the wave of the future - and $200 bucks for it may be a bit more than the cost of sleeving (not sure, the sleeving can't be much cheaper, if any), but its worth it. Dirt bike motors have had it for a while, the new Z-400 does, and many more to come.
I personally don't think the reliability of the DS can be hurt any worse than any other bike given the same mods, and more than likely it can't be hurt as bad. My motor is still stock so i can't speak from experience, but from all that I've read and seen its as bulletproof as they come and ready and willing to give you a lot more HP.
The best deal I've seen yet is the Alba kit - JE 11.5:1 piston, Web cams and springs, head and base gaskets, $668. The cams just happen to be the very grind I've decided I want too! Add to that the shim-under bucket set-up for high-reving reliability, a 44mm Lectron carb for $240 that works with stock intake manifold, and have that intake and head ported, and look out! This is what I'm planning to do, and it will be more than enough to satisfy myself for quite a while.
These are my opinions mind you - make sure you listen to everybody else too, and develop you own as well.
