I know that this is off topic, but I am hoping that some of you guys with little 50cc and 65cc youth quads can help me out.

We took my sons 65cc quad out to the sand yesterday, and it did great on the packed sand and truthfully did horrible on the soft sand. I inflated the front tires to make them as hard as possible, and deflated the rears to like 5 psi, but it still just buries when you hit soft sand. The front seems to just dig in due to the knobbies. The tires are like 16 x 8 x 7, are there any options on tire sizes for the youth quads? If there are, what would be a good tire for these little quads?

I really want my little guy to be able to truck around with us, and know that he probably won't be able to get up steep hills, but I would hope that he could at least be able to drive on the flats with us.

ive got my sons psi at like 1lb. the tire itself recomends 3

 

How does his do with that pressure? Is he able to get around pretty well in the soft sand?

well it does alright as long as he says on it all the way. but when he stops i just give him a little push. havnt realy taken him out on a long ride in the sand yet to see if he can tackle medium hills. hes only 3 and weighs only about 45 lbs

 

I had the same problem with my two daughters when we were at Sand Lake. I was ready to get two sets of Scat Trak Gliders, the only paddles made for the little quads. Then I saw a little quad with paddles that actually had a worse time in the sand than my kids. The poor little guy would be going up the beach head, would loose speed and nail the throtle and totally bury himself. So I started thinking it was more driving style than anything else. I've driven my Raptor with and without paddles. Paddles are great for hill climbs, drag racing, throwing sand on your wife, but they're not totally necessary, just fun. So I worked with my kids a little, showing them how to climb hills sideways, always get up some speed on the beach first, don't slow down on the hill, if you get into trouble turn the bars and nail the throtle, etc. It worked. P.S. I always run their tires at 3 psi or less. They need all the cushion they can get.

 

My daughter (5 yrs. old) rides an LT-80 with paddle tires. She can go anywhere I want her to be able to go at this point.

Sand tires are not always needed and true, skill is important but, the softer, lighter and finer sand needs paddle tires.

James Lucky (J&L ATV) sells paddle tires mounted on rims for the LT-80. Not sure about the bolt pattern for some of the other quads. Call them to see if they offer paddles for your quad.

 

Sand lake is exactly where we had the problem yesterday, the sand seemed very soft and fine. We even got our Warriors stuck a couple of times just going from a dead stop (with sand skate 2s).

I'll try the lower pressure thing first, plus work with my son some more, and worse case get some paddles to see if it will help. The quad is a Kasea, so the wheels mount with 6 bolts, I have no idea what the pattern is. How many bolt pattern does you Raptor have?
