I have had it with the Gas Boiling/Vapor Lock on my Grizz, and have been terrified to ride it since the last incident. SO: I need all Canadian Grizz owners with a safety issue to call the Canadian Federal Consumer Safety Hotline and report your concern and make them do something BEFORE someone gets killed. It really only takes 2 min to do. Please post after you have called and show your support.

Thanks!

So I guess I have the only Grizz in Canada that has boiled gas/vapor locked????? I finally make some progress here north of the border and find out that I'm probably wasting my time because NO ONE else has the problem. I guess I should just sell the Grizz and buy a P650.

Do what I did, get a Quest 650 to replace it. My griss has tons of problems including the one you posted. Im not pleased at all.

Quest is a great ride and it handles better then the griss. At 60 km if you slam the bars it will just carve thanks to the width and the quest engine seems to have more power.

Ill call the Canadian safety board for you guys anyway but im planing on selling this bike.

Thanks Marty. I would sell mine as well, but I would'nt be able to live with myself if, knowing the bike had this problem, I sold it to someone and they got seriously hurt because of it.

RYGUY,

There's a remedy for your problem, if it bothers you so much.Check your Yamaha dealer. My Grizz boils gas too,I am pissed, that i have to stop and take a side panel off/and wait 15 minutes/.OR you can take the side panel off as a prevention.
I can also predict when it'll happen and I occasionally check what's going on. I don't think the gas tank explodes,no reason to be "terrified", I think.
Joe
Yes, it can be dangerous going uphill and losing the motor.

Aside from this boiling and the sputtering in water cross, are they pretty sound machines?

Has anyone had any success ceramic coating the pipes?

Im totally with you RyGuy660 there has got to be some thing done about these problems. I have had a number of problems with my grizzly, none that you expect to have with a brand new machine. Sure the problems can be fixed but they should not happen in the first place and who buys a brand new machine to ride around with the side pannels off or with holes drilled in the sides and have to get the valves adjusted all the time. I have recently called in to Atv magazine asking them to publish a article about the problems and they seemed very interested. I also told them that a couple of my neighbours have recently grizzlys too and they want to wait to see what problems they have. You would think that yamaha is not aware of the problems by making the 2003 the exact same as the 2002 but they would have to know with the number of problems and should come clean and offer people free repair of parts. Personally I like the way the machine rides when it runs right but it will probably be my last grizzly i own unless they do something about it.

Colt77~Next time your gas boils, pull out your vent tube and look at the volume of vapour/gas coming out. Then take a second to figure out where the vent exits in the stock location. (near the manifold) Then tell me there is no reason to be scared. (BTW, I have had the fix done....Didn't work.)
GreenGrizz~Thanks. Have you guys called the 1-800 #? The man there said he was also concerned and could use more info.

RY,
if you scared that much, put the vent tube in your pocket. No danger there,I hope...
just kidding.....if Yamaha did not fix this problem/and many more in 03 model/ we should stop buying anything from this arrogant Jap's manufacturer.Period.I sure won't/buy/.
I had all kinds of problems with my Grizz.....But I have to admit, that this is my dream quad.It is all I can wish for. It's light,it' a super mudder, it has IRS and locking differential,it's powerful, fast, steering is excelent. It is very comfortable. These features make it #1 quad for me.Positive heavily overweigts negativ, from my perspective.......

Yes,I realize, that the compromises were made, and not always the way we'd like it.

bought my grizz on may 24th but have been real busy this summer so only have 180km on it. I have been out with the guys twice for half day rides and haven't had this happen yet but my dealer told me it might, after i picked it up. My bike is in the local metal shop today being outfitted with a custom aluminum checker-plate skid pan and a-arm guards. I will call the number today if for nothing else to back you guys up on this: if it happened to a few of you it will probably happen to me also. I have to say that i love this bike; my budds all ride honda foremans and one guy rides a 700 twin. We did a comparison on the last ride and survey says---- the griz rules!!!
