New Gas Tank - Fuel Line Routing
#1
Just received a replacement gas tank and I finally got one of the new ones. The new one has the outlet at the front of the tank instead of the rear. I can't find anything on Cannondales website about routing the fuel line for the new tank. Does anyone else have this tank? Can you fill me in on how to route the fuel line? I would guess that the line should be cut and the fitting put back on but I don't want to do that without someone else confirming that's what should be done. Thanks!!

So did your dealer just hand you the new tank without assisting in the replacement? Majority of us have had issues with our tanks, lid not screwing on properly for instance. I have not gone to my dealer with this issue yet because up until now it did not sound like they've resolved the problem. I would certainly expect my dealer to install the new one since the original was somewhat defective, especially if fuel lines need to be cut and rerouted.

When I first got my Speed back in April I had problems with fuel leaking out the gas cap and a small bit of dripping at the bottom back connection. The gas cap was replaced with and new one and that solved that problem. As for the little leak in the fuel line at the tank, I snugged up the connection a liitle this helped but didn't completely solve the problem. I'm not to conerned with a very small puddle of gas on the swing arm when it sits for a while.

Gas cap leaking??
Hey!! I've seen that, too! My original one leaked, got a replacement cap- it leaked, too!
Let's go back to the old saying- "Third times a charm!" I was informed the mold for the cap had been modified to tighten the fit on the threads. The third cap is tight as a whistle and doesn't leak!!
With the old caps, you could tell they were no good. About half way tight, I could feel it jumping on the thread on the front side of the tank. As soon as I put the second one on, I knew it was going to leak, and sure enough it did. I was very glad they corrected the cap and I didn't get a new tank. Making one connection at the front of the tank is hard enough, I'd hate to have to make 2. IMO, if you still have the old tank, keep it and get the new cap.

I got the new tank and installed it myself. I cut the ends of the lines at the feul filter end so I didn't mess with the quick connects. From where the line connects to the tank you can just run it out toward the front and drop down to the fuel pump, it's a strait shot.
The new tank doesn't leak with my old cap. Problem is it is now much more difficult to change the fuel filter. Because of the location of the quick connects, I had to pull the rear plastic and loosen the tank to get the line off, nothing quick about it anymore. I think next time I'm going to just pull the filter and plug the line while I change it.

I cut the line but ran into a slight issue. The connector from the old tank is L shaped. When I connect to the tank it forces me to run the line towards the back of the tank. I have it bent so that it turns and goes to the fuel pump but the bend concerns me. Should I be getting a new connector like the other one? If it was a straight connector then I could run it straight to the front of the machine.
