I just watched a segment on ABC news about ATVs and there safety. It was mainly the concern of children riding adult ATVs. My son rides a 250 TrailBoss, he is in the fourth grade,he wears a helmet and doesnt do anything wild on it. Altough I did catch him once cutting donuts with a passenger and he almost lost it. He doesnt do it anymore. My question is should I put him on a smaller quad? (100cc or less) I am concerned about the size of the polaris compared to a smaller quad, if it was to flip over on him it could be fatal.
What do your kids ride???

I would give him a smaller one let him work up to a bigger one,, when he gets more mature, there fun machines but can be fatal as you said.

My kids are 11 and 13. They ride my Raptor, my wifes Raptor, my brothers DS and a friends Banshee, and an RM 80. They ride them well, they ride them fast, they ride them safe. They did not start out on these bikes. They started on an LT80 4-5 years ago and a Badger a couple years ago. They still ride those quads, but prefer the bigger ones. You know way better than any tv program about what your kids can handle and cannot. Use your good judgment. JMO

wshrdskin I know what ya mean, my son handles this quad well. I believe he is fine on it, I would like to put him on a quad that was a little lighter. What smaller quads have good power and can run up to around 40mph?? I have two sons 9yr and 6yr I plan on getting a smaller one for my youngest anyway.

I'm not real familiar with the smaller quads. The LT80 and the Badger will go 30+ mph. The suspension sucks on the badger and the LT80 isn't much better. Honda make a 90 that is similar to the LT80. If they know how to shift gears, I'd get a 250ex. No clutch but does have gears. JMO

i watched that news segment and didnt agree with all of it but i think
a 11 and 13 year old riding a raptor ds or a banshee is crazy i would think twice about me driveing one of those quads
on my 250 i have a hard time handeling it sometimes and i dont think im a bad rider i started on old 3 wheelers when i was 11 and im alsmost 15 now

When i get my raptor motor finished next week i am going to let my 11 year old be the main rider in the drag races. I will probably handle the races with the 30 shot of nos. Just depends on how he handles it. You should see him launch my raptor. He is up on the bars.

His other rides are a stock badger and a modded lt80.

My 9yr old loves shifting gears, he would rather shift gears. He has riden my warrior some but not enough time on the clutch. A 250ex would be nice for him and my wife. Its also got to be a smaller frame than the TrailBoss.

WarriorMadness, Its a lot lighter as well. (the 250ex)

Arsonist678, That old 3 wheeler is much more dangerous to ride than any 4 wheeler. If your rideing a 250R modded, there is no reason you couldn't ride any of the quads my kids ride. But if your that nervouse about it. I'll put my 11 year old up against you on my Raptor, you ride your 250R which are very nice quads by the way. I'll put my money on my 11 year old.
